Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

QuoteThe Phillies laid off four such employees this week: director of baseball communications Greg Casterioto, director of video coaching Kevin Camiscioli, director of minor-league operations Steve Noworyta, and strength and conditioning coordinator Paul Fournier. Each of them had spent at least a decade with the organization. Casterioto, Camiscioli, and Noworyta had spent at least two.

Basically lifers.  But you know... guys like that are well-paid and that simply won't do when the seats aren't as full as they once were.

lifers of the team that has won twice in 140 years

They're mid-level functionaries.

MDS

a few media members caught feelings over it, mostly for the pr guy. so rome is just echoing that.

again 3/4 people fired were in jobs directly related to on field performance. were they the reason the phillies suck? of course not. but they sure as hell didnt help. its a performance based industry, not a summer camp.

The Phillies made a notable addition to their coaching staff today, hiring former Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long to fill the same position. They're apparently considering making another noteworthy hire, as Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports the Phillies have discussed bringing back Bobby Dickerson as infield coach. Dickerson spent the 2019 campaign as Phils' infield coach before joining the Padres as Jayce Tingler's bench coach entering 2020. Dickerson remains under contract with San Diego, but Padres' staffers were given permission to explore opportunities elsewhere once Tingler was fired last week. The Phils are on the hunt for a new infield instructor after dismissing Juan Castro.

Love Cutch, but he looked like he was at the end of the line last season.

Odubel?  Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

MDS

both options were essentially extra years on their existing deals...odubel is probably not getting a ML deal. cutch maybe maybe could get one but for only a couple mil. not a challenging decision here.

cutch is as good a dude as you can find and did some nice things but signing him and harper was just maddeningly stupid. klentak sucks

Little surprised by Torreyes. I'd like him to stick around.

MDS

they can still bring him back...they just dont want to commit to giving him a spot on the 40 in november

id fully expect him to be offered a minor league contract, doubt anyone gives him a ML deal

Yeah that's Joe's little mini-me. He goes where Joe goes.

None of this matters since it seems a lockout is coming
