Another reason why Marcus Hayes eats ass

He says the Phils are only in the playoff race because they avoided Oswalt, Smoltz, Willis, Clemens, Zambrano, etc.

"Is that even a serious question?" snipped first baseman Ryan Howard. "Why would we sit there and think about who we aren't facing? If you have to face them, you have to face them. If not, why deal with it?"

Well, perhaps to understand that, if the Phillies reach the playoffs, the Derrek Lees and Chipper Joneses and Cliff Floyds will be have to be in some sort of truss to keep them off the field. And, not only will they face every team's ace, they'll probably face him twice.

Howard, who feasted in August during the run on the best and the worst other teams offered, shrugged. "It doesn't matter," he said. "You don't win because you missed those guys."

"Sometimes the guys you've never seen before can be tougher. There's no scouting on those guys," growled teammate Chase Utley, who generally has starved at the plate during the run.

Notice how Hayes negatively describes their reactions when they told him his idea was stupid...

Marcus should know that the unknown bums (ex. Les Walrond) give them trouble. Just like Chase was "grrrrrowling" about.

Someone should punch him in the face. Maybe he'll be on DNL tonight and they can rip him.

I'm just guessing......... LA/SD would play a 1 game playoff for the division.  The loser would then have a worse winning % than the Phils and would be eliminated from the WC

Almost.  The loser would fly here for a 1-game playoff to determine the wildcard winner (since the Phils won the coin tosses against both teams).

I would have thought, because a 1 game playoff is actually counted as another regular season game, that the loser would be automatically eliminated from the W/C chase.
