I'm guessing it's because of that pitch he took from Thompson in the knee last night (Thurs).  I can't stand the guy but I give him some credit for getting up and heading down to 1st base.  There's no way in hell that felt good at all.  Too bad he didn't get hit earlier before he dropped the pop up on the 3rd base line.  :boom

1. I've actually met Barry Bonds several times. In person he is a nice guy. My former stepdad's co-pilot in the Army played minor league ball with Barry and they are close friends. We went to HOU to see Barry several times and hung out afterwards. He was pretty cool.

Now, I totally despise him and McGwire and the rest of the losers who juiced up. But I don't think that should give people a free pass to throw things. Taunt him and boo him and put up signs and all that good stuff. Because he deserves it.

2. The writer who wrote that AP story is Rob Maadi. He appears on Phillyburbs.com and is from the Philly area. Thanks for the cliched rip job, Rob. Now go die.

3. As well as Lieby has been playing, lets not get overboard here. He was hitting +.300 but he has no power and no run production. And his defense, throwing and pitch calling has still been bad.

4. Carlos Ruiz, who has been playing very well in SWB, has been called up and will catch Ryan Madson tonight.

5. Speaking of Madson, this is his last chance. I actually think Hamels should be making the start tonight. But its obvious he won't be. So I will root for Madson to turn it around, but he belongs in the bullpen.

6. Gavin Floyd threw well tonight. He now has 3 wins and has gone 6+ in three of his last four starts.

7. Burrell got hurt tonight. Tight hamstring sliding into 2nd on a potential DP ball by Howard. I'm sure he has some hottie rubbing it down for him tonight.

8. Chase Utley has the raccoon eyes in that calendar photo. Take off the glasses once in awhile, Chase.

9. Nice to see Billy Wags fargin up again. He will be in town next week.

10. The Phillies bullpen has allowed 1 run in the last 20 innings. :o

Is that a PG mock or do you not realize I was being facetious?

QuoteThese fans will always be remembered for booing Santa Claus during halftime of an Eagles game during a 2-12 season in 1968.

actually considering it was 1968...theres a chance that most of those fans are dead now.

we never would have let santa get out so easily today.

I can't believe anyone is defending Barry Bonds here.

He's a complete piece of shtein as a human being and a balls-out cheater between the lines.

He should be banned from the sport forever and his records should be stripped from him.

Odd, since most people who have met him in real life say he's a complete piece of shtein.
"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

Geowhizzer

I've read and heard from various writers that Bonds can be Jekyll and Hyde.  He can be engaging, and even charming, on occasion, and can just as easily be abrasive or sullen.

For my opinion:  Boo?  Heck, who am I to tell a Philly fan not to boo?  But throwing objects at a player should never be done under any circumstances.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

Bonds is a jerkoff and a cheater.

Why MLB is allowing him anywhere near the field at this point is beyond me.  I suspect that they're afraid of the public outcry that would ensue from certain quarters if he was shown the door but rather than standing on principles, they'll simply sweep it under the rug and move on.

I suspect he's about done anyway and simply wants to pass Ruth for his own selfish reasons most of which can only be speculated about...

To wit:

Quote"755 isn't a number that's always caught my eye--the only number I'm concerned with is Babe Ruth's. As a left-handed hitter, I wiped him out. That's it. And in the baseball world, Babe Ruth's everything, right? I got his (single season) slugging percentage, I got him on on-base, I got him on walks and then I'll take his (lifetime) home run record and that's it. Don't talk about him no more."

Sorry, Barry... you'll never be Babe Ruth any more than you'll be a truly great man like Hank Aaron.  You'll always be the same spoiled rotten brat you've always been no matter how many juiced-up homers you hit or fraudulent records you produce.  If you weren't such a miserable piece of garbage as a human being, there'd be a chance the sporting public would care.

SD_Eagle5

Utley goes deep to right in the 1st. 1-0 Phils.

Asterickman walked his first AB and almost misplayed a Rollins shot to left.

SD_Eagle5

Bonds 2nd AB he hits into a 6-5-3 DP.
