I planted a tree today.
No idea how many I've planted for pay.  For fun/as a neighborhood do-gooder/in my garden: at least 30.

Probably the best thing I've done in my entire life, planting a few trees.

I got his brother Seabiscuit by text / he tells me that Don Ho is living on Oahu--which didn't get incinerated--so he's probably fine and we can look forward to drunken posts at odd hours again sometime soon.

the death toll in Hawaii (currently being reported 55) is only those who have been discovered OUTSIDE of the structures....searches in structures only just beginning...

Guys, I'm so sorry for the late response, but all good on my island.  Oahu is fine.  Lahaina is basically a war zone no other way to put it.  Complete devastation just simply unbelievable.  Unfortunately, on all the western sides of all the islands, they become tinder boxes during the summer months. Stops raining in May, no rain for three or four months and every year there are gnarly brush fires. This has been going on for years and years.  This beast moved so fast that there wasn't a lot anybody could do.  Fire crews were already fighting fires up in the hills, and once the wind kicked up utter chaos ensued.  Lahaina is an old, historic whaling town, lots of wooden structures.  Such a beautiful town just a great place to hang out when you are on the island of Maui.  Heartbreaking, gut wrenching, just numb.  Body count will go up. 


No family on Maui. My roots are Oahu and Kauai but you can imagine this is a very small state and we're all somehow connected through relatives or friends or business so I'm sure we will be getting some gnarly news in the next few days/weeks.
