Got it.  Good on him because I'm pretty sure that if the owner started taking away vacation from people, he'd have either been looking to replace half of his workforce or would have had a major lawsuit on his hands.

I had a conversation with the cornerstore clerk this morning. He's from India and we were talking about how the US leads the world in people working for long periods without vacation. Other countries believe in vacations and not murdering their workers.

lol...im pretty sure india shouldnt be held up as some beacon of workers rights....a factory collapses or burns to the ground every other month over there.....and theres a reason we farm out thousands of job to them....and its not because of the superior working conditions

Yeah pretty sure he wasn't talking about the sweatshop people.

Just like in Peru - they get 4wks off the bat and then they have a shtein load of holidays.

I sat next to an American chick on a flight once and she married a British dude. She moved to London and they own a McDonald's there. Brits working in Mickey D's get 4 weeks when they start.

Or there would be some message board outrage.  Outrage I say.

what are these vacation days everyone is talking about?

Sgt PSN

They're those multi-week periods of time throughout the year that you don't remember.

1 month into my new job and I don't hate it yet, so I guess that's good. But my immediate supervisor is pretty incompetant and a total spaz.  He used to do my job and whenever I ask him questions, he tells me he doesn't know and that he never had to do it when he was in my position.  So I spend a lot of time on the phone with one of our other offices getting the answers I need because he's such a tool.  On the plus side, I found out that I was drastically misinformed about vacation time. I get 2 weeks, not 1, and I can start using vacation after 90 days instead of 1 year.

The company itself seems like its good to its employees because I've met/talked with a lot of people who have been with them 10+ years, but the site I'm at is definitely a bit of a shteinehole.  No biggie though since I'm only using this job to get the DOT knowledge I need before applying to higher positions...either with this company or another. Sassy don't give a shtein either way. It's all about the Benjamins baby.

One of my responsibilities is to make sure our drivers are aware of their schedule for the next day, so I send them their schedules via text message. Been doing it that way since I started because it's much quicker and easier than calling them. My boss just found out about it the other day and told me that since I'm using my personal cell for work, the company is going to throw me an extra $50/month to pay the bill.  Nice.

Last week we had a driver get injured in Quakertown and had to go to the ER, so we had to get another driver down there to get in the truck and finish the route.  I volunteered to drive someone down and got reimbursed 50 cents per mile + $50 for fuel + $25 for tolls and food. $215 total for 5 hrs of driving. Not too shabby.

My buddy's Dad is a driver for a large car dealership chain here in Florida.  Say someone needs a Honda Accord in Clearwater.  That dealership will call the local one here and the driver will take that car to Clearwater and bring another back in return to Daytona.  He gets paid $100 each way and gets per diem for meals.  If he has to stay overnight they pay his hotel and ancillary expenses.  All he does is drive brand new cars all over the state.   Talk about a great gig for a single guy.

Been offered a job out in KC and I am waiting to hear from a job in Northern VA by the end of the week.  I am looking forward to the change in both job and city.  Richmond is a good place for a family but I am ready for a change.

ETA:  Accepted the job in NOVA.  Looking to move to Winchester if anyone knows anything about that area.

My company is kind of stingy when it comes to travel pay. I'm in KC (go figure) for 2 weeks because the previous project manager basically ran this place into the ground. They need the most help on their overnight shift from 8pm-6am, which is fine,  but I figured that such crappy hours would be worth a few extra greenbacks. Nope. The pay is a 10% increase while I'm out here +$45/day for food.... which is what they give everyone while traveling. An extra 10% hardly seems worth it,  but I'm also being looked at for a promotion right now,  so if I get that, then maybe I'll stop bitching about the travel pay.
