I don't know which is worse, other peoples' kids, or my own.

The combination of the two. You get all the burning hatred of seeing other peoples' kids act like iceholes, and your own kids picking up new stupid habits.

The man. The myth. The legend.

I don't understand people who want to bring their kids to a resort. Way to totally defeat the purpose of a vacation. If you want to go on a family vacation rent a beach house or go to farging Disney World. Don't fly to a tourist destination and pay for the brats to travel and stay with you. What the farg?

What's worse is when they bring their kids to a casino hotel.

I spent the weekend in a haunted castle up in the Finger Lakes on Lake Seneca. Place is also a winery and they had wine taps hooked directly into the walls. You just walked around and cranked out some wine whenever you wanted, it was pretty awesome.

First time up in the finger lakes area, pretty cool place.

did any haunted shtein go down?  other than you putting a sheet on your head and acting like a ghost so you could get into girls' rooms
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Hey, they're not called the Finger Lakes for nothing.

meh we were all there for a wedding so everyone was way too drunk to be woken up by any stupid ghosts.

Does anyone here have any experience traveling cross country on Amtrak?  I take Amtrak up and down the NYC-Philly-DC corridor pretty much more than anyone I know but have never taken it west.

Have been thinking for a while about taking a 3-4 week trip by myself by train to just see what happens. Basically am curious as to whether the cross county lines have good internet access, because if so i could possibly do this and still pretend i'm working and not take vacation or leave of absence or anything.

My plan right now is to leave DC in late Sept. or early Oct., go all the way NW, down the coast, the back east through the south and finish the trip in New Orleans for the game in November. Crashing with friends along the way for a few nights at a time in certain cities.

BA Barakus is a pro at north south travel on the rails I hear.

As far as internet access, Amtrak offers some of their rails with a dedicated wifi service.  As a backup you could get something like Millienicom for a 4G card which has no contract, just the activation/card itself with runs about 150 to get started up.

I took Amtrak from NYC to Chicago in the mid '00s and it was awful.

Long story short don't be fooled by semi-effiicient commuter trains in the most populous region of the country.  Once you are out of civilization, the tracks are all owned by freight companies and their traffic takes priority.  I wouldn't even consider trying it again.

Oh I'm not expecting a super comfortable ride, that's kind of the point though. Not sure why but it's just something I want to do. Although I hear the Zephyr line from Chicago to the west coast is actually kind of nice.

Was that Belhurst? Strangely enough, there is more than one castle on that lake.

when you take a long distance train the seats are much more roomy than the ne corridor johnsons...also when i take logn disatnce trains i spend most all of my nights in the dining car where theres tons of room...to me comfort or lack thereof would not be a reason to not do this...you also could get a sleeper car for all or part of the way...

i personally wouldnt take one across country because you would be so limited....to me if you are gonna do that then drive...that will allow you to stop wherever and whenever you want and see the little things that would make a trip like that what it is...taking the train allows you to only see the country on a macro level
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

i don't want to drive because i want to do this solo...spiritual journey i guess. don't want to be stuck in a car with no human interaction for that long. sounds gay but just something i want to do. meet up with other travelers, find places to crash and live like a hobo for a month. there are actually a lot of stops in the middle of nowhere once you start going west.
