I'm changing jobs inside of my own company right now, so I'm taking on no new clients and just clearing out my existing ones. This process involves maybe 5 minutes of work per day. My dept head is in Iowa this week at the other office, therefore....I'm basically flying under the radar with no direction and nothing to do. Corporate America is great.

Anyway I watched some movies

La La Land - Damien Chazelle most certainly deserved the best director oscar but in no way shape or form should this have been a best picture winner. It was good for what it was trying to do. Emma Stone destroyed. Ryan Gosling is very handsome but at the same time seems like a serial killer. The story was intentionally repetitive of 1000 other movies but that was the point. Music was very good. Overall a very enjoyable film but more cute than anything. 3.5/5

Hidden Figures - Basic as a bitch but well done. Tarajii P. Henson is not believable in the least bit as some genius math whiz. That woman could probably barely add 2 and 2. Janelle Monae was too hot for her role. Mahershala Ali was too handsome to be going after a widow who works all the time and has 3 kids. Poor Kirsten Dunst. Now she's playing the bitchy racist white lady? But yeah solid flick. A good one to take the whole family to. If I had young ones I'd rather them see this than another animated jawn. 3/5

Hell or High Water - Badass. Jeff Bridges owned every scene he was in blew everyone off the screen, including a surprisingly solid Chris Pine. If you like classic Western's you'll love this. Great script. Great action. Great characterization. Great ending. See this. 4/5

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Agreed on HOHW...made a point to see that in the theater last summer

Just got back from seeing Logan.  Definitely not your typical comic book movie, and most definitely doesn't feel like it's any part of the previous X-Men/Wolverine movies, but it's more of a serious/dramatic flick that happens to about comic book characters.  Thought it was really well done overall.  The little girl who plays Laura/X-23 was amazing.  Take a healthy shtein and piss before you go in, I think it's run time is around 2:15/2:20.

SD

I wasn't going to see it based off the trailers, but it's getting phenomenal reviews so I'm gonna try to see it tomorrow.

Sgt PSN

I wasn't really in a rush to see it, mostly because I think that Wolverine has been too much of a focal point in the X-Men series at the expense of other great characters, but going to the movies is one of the few activities that Squaw can do while she's rehabbing her knee and we just needed to get out of the house for a few hours.  So we decided to see it.  Definitely glad we did though.

You realize that most people here generally enjoy all the same movies you do, we just happen to enjoy some other shtein, too, right?  Stop trying so hard to always be anti-whatever's popular and just enjoy something for what it is.  Or don't enjoy it and let others enjoy it without your negative commentary.

sully - surprised this didnt get more oscar buzz. very simple and to the point, as it will with eastwood, but effective. scenes in the cockpit were really well done, which was the key. besides tom hanks and aaron eckhart, the characters were pretty much empty vessels. didnt spend enough time on them. and it just kind of ended. 3/5

whiplash - after seeing la la land i wanted to double back to this. damien chazelle's first feature. need to be seeing more big roles for bucks county's own miles teller. jk simmons obviously deserving of the oscar. one of the best elongated final scenes i can remember. 3.5/5

hateful 8 - not as bad as jackie brown but not as good as anything else qt has done. sam jackson cant carry a movie. got way too cartoonish and over the top violent. qt invents these world that arent attempting to be accurate but they dont always work. not a bad or boring film, but expectations are high with him and it wasnt met. almost 3 hours long but never felt it, which is the one huge thing it has going for it. 2.5/5

I think I've only seen two superhero movies in the last 15 years. No Spider-Man, no X-Men, no Batman even. It's not really something that interests me. I wasn't even into that stuff when I was 12.

But if I was going to bash other people about them, I'd probably give them crap over liking Green Lantern, that Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie, or some other 80-IQ summer blockbuster, not a movie sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes that seems to escape many of the trappings of the genre.

almost half the country loves donald trump....93% on rotten tomatoes doesnt impress me

lolgan is a farce

I know. It's an exercise in futility.  But holy farg, besides Republicans, I've never seen someone so eager to shtein on other people's good times.

You guys should respect IGY's hipster movie opinions. Go watch something good for a change, like Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

The man. The myth. The legend.
