The NFL wants to punt these decisions to the indepedent arbiter so that the commissioner isn't the focal point of people thinking decisions are too light/harsh. Clearly the current incarnation of that system has failed because now this goes right back to Goodell's desk.

I think Watson is a scumbag who should never play football again, but I do think it should give us some pause that a district attorney, two grand juries, and now a federal judge all seem to think Watson's conduct is less objectionable than the court of public opinion does.

I see no cause for pause on that count.  DA, grand juries, and judges are making judgements according to the law, and against an expressly difficult standard of proof.  Polled personally, I doubt you'd find any of them view his conduct better than the general public does.

The arbiter is ruling against the conduct clause of the CBA, not the high bar of criminal charges. And the public (including myself) has been outraged at all of these decisions -- not just Watson's conduct -- without consideration of the standard of proof. I do question my own conclusions when those expressly weighing the evidence in detail conclude differently than what I do based only on what has played out in public.

Sounds like the league was pushing for a suspension of at least a year but was willing to come down to 12 games and a multimillion dollar fine in a settlement. The NFLPA wanted no suspension at all but was willing to settle up to 6 games. It seems like no one wants to make an actual decision on Watson. The judge's ruling essentially sides with the NFLPA's version of the appropriate punishment, but by giving any suspension at all she kicks the question back to the league office and washes her hands of it.

I think there is a version of things where legal action continues and Watson can start the season until things are resolved. What a trainwreck.

Can't wait until it gets argued down to 4 games, the team manages to make the playoffs, and some dipshtein announcer talks about how Watson overcame his offseason issues.

The man. The myth. The legend.

You leave the announcer nameless, but everyone knows you mean Cris Collinsworth.

Adam Schefter too. He likes to step in shtein lately.

And QB is spot on with his comments.

100%.  He starts off hot and then nfl media already starts calling it a redemption even though nothing happened yet.

If it was sacred indigenous mRNA injected into the heart chakra I think he might be ok with it.

Not a recreational hallucinogen.  Unless you like uncontrolled diarrhea and vomiting.

If you mean the ayahuasca, that's not what I've read (ie not a recreational hallucinogen), but honestly I have no idea. But I think he also has talked about doing mushrooms.

Diomedes

I do.  It's a pretty extreme experience, not the kiind of thing one does (or should do) flippantly.  Mushrooms are one thing.  Even peyote...but whatever.  Dude wants to trip balls on South American shaman medicine so he can be a great NFL QB....what do I know?
