yeah thats not how it works...i despise rhys hoskins but if you think they can come close to replacing his production you are nuts...and thats in a normal year...this year he was having a monster spring and was in a contract year which in theory would have elevated his numbers....in a division as good as the nl east every little thing matters which makes this probably somewhere between a big and huge loss...defense improved doe

Plus the chemistry and lineup construction take a hit.

the chemistry is valid argument...he was a really key guy in the room

again you can make up for his production in a marco context just like they did when bryce was out. the defense will get better, they have like 5 internal options who can fill that lineup spot and you can cycle between them depending on matchup/streak. where you cant make up for rhys at the plate is in his ability to carry an offense for a hot streak and his AB quality in bigger games/moments. this is more about the playoffs than anything...they have 4 months to see how the fill ins go and can always adjust.

list of potentially available players: cron, votto, santana, choi, hosmer, bellinger, turner, lowe, cooper -- 1B is the easiest position to fill

if they trade for someone they could maybe make ip for it if everything went right but they cant sniff coming close internally

i think darick hall stinks but he had an 804 OPS last year, higher than hoskins 794.

again, you dont replace hoskins with 1 person. bohm plays first, harrison plays 3B against LHP where hes got a career 750 OPS. jake cave had an over 800 OPS against RHP in 18/19 before injuries did him in. can he get back to that now? probably not, but theres a scenario. does scott kingery exist? no. but who knows.

its not far fetched to say this stuff can buy them 3-4 months before july when theyd very likely need to grab someone
