3. this creates a massive logjam at SP which i think is a good thing. make everyone, even nola and velasquez, earn a rotation spot

Yeah that's really the only complaint someone can have and it's not a valid complaint. The position is crowded, but it's crowded with marginal guys. Play like a major leaguer or hone your craft in AAA. Trade makes sense for both teams.
