quick legit phils question: should they be in the jose quintana trade talks?

stay with me. the fop tier SP free agent class isnt really going to be strong until 2019/2020. there are some possible, potential trades in a few years for someone like gerritt cole....but in terms of acquiring a really good SP quintana is going to be it for a few years. if you dont get him, youre looking at an average at best rotation for the next 3 years unless VV somehow reaches his ceiling (he wont).

none of them are worth the money if they are just going to be an overpaid 2 on a team not ready to win....they need to break the break for a pitcher when they are a wild card ish team looking to make the next step...you made all these trades and have sucked to get high picks for a reason....a process was started...ideally what happens is the young hitters blossom to where you have a playoff offense but need pitching and thats when you start opening the vault

yea ideally but its going to take upwards of 4 years to break the bank on a pitcher....there just isnt such a player available for a while and who knows if there will be. chris archer and gerritt cole could have their arms fall off or they could be traded elsewhere and sign with them before they hit the market

theres so much uncertainty between now and then. what is certain is a 28 year old budding ace is available. youre not ready to win now, of course, but he can help get you there quicker provided they hit on a few bats over the next year.

i just dont believe in having to compete with the yankees red sox angels nats etc. for an overpaid really good but not great pitcher until the rest of your roster is ready to win...unless its a 25/26 year old super stud....then fine back the trucks up...but the chances of someone like that hitting the market is slim to none
