The sooner he busts, the sooner they can fire Dougie and draft the next bust.

I don't think it's a terrible football decision, especially with Lane not suspended yet.

The Browns and Bears have bad defenses.  The OLine is probably the best it's going to be with Lane and a healthy Peters.   Steelers defense isn't amazing either.   Run him out for 3 weeks, then you get two weeks to pull through the tape and make corrections and adjustments coming out of the bye.

How about, it doesn't farging matter anyway.

No one knows for sure if sitting one dude or starting another works best. Getting extra 'Practice' reps isn't going to do shtein. It's like, "Let me practice on my inflatable doll for a year before I try with a real woman". It didn't work for me, it won't work for Wentz.

He wants this job, have him learn it. It's not like this O-Line is all of a sudden going to get better when he gets in there mid-season. In fact, it might help them gel together knowing that they're the only thing protecting Wentz's interest in being able to walk after he retires.

Throw him in, he's not 12 years old, have him learn. farg practice, farg being a Hoyda. The game isn't as 'tough' as it used to be. There are more protections for QB's now than there ever were.

Lol.

The modern game is definitely more favorable to young QBs because of the rules, this is true.  Legit NFL prospects don't need to sit for an entire year like they did back in the day.  And I'm not even suggesting that Wentz sits the entire year, just 3 weeks. If he were a Luck or Cam, then you can throw him to the wolves. He isn't those guys. Not even close. Maybe he develops into that kind of player, but that's not what he is today.

hbionic

Fine, Cam and Luck had great college careers...but so did many others. Also, Cam and Luck have had some zesty stretches in their careers after their first season. It all has to do with the personnel around you. Wentz is already starting with nothing, so it only goes up from here. That's why sitting him doesn't matter. He might as well learn with the slop he has around him.

It's got less to do with their body of work and more to do with their actual skill set and how it potentially translates to the NFL.  When you've got these "can't miss" prospects, you throw them in and see what they've got. But when you've got a guy who played against community colleges and ITT Tech, it might not be the worst idea to bring him a long a little slower, especially when he didn't get much of a preseason. Like I said, had he not gotten hurt and took more live action snaps, then I'd be much more in favor of starting him.

This isn't about who gives the Eagles the best chance to win games. It's about doing what gives Wentz...the guy you gave up a potential top 5 pick for... the best chance chance to develop into a quality NFL starting QB.

In the history of the NFL, no QB development was ever hindered by spending a few weeks on the bench.

General_Failure

So what you're saying is Wentz was so good they had to close ITT Tech?

botton line this, with Bradford gone, its obvious that, regardless of nfl experience and his stupid contract, Daniel is so far below wentz in every possible category that the team wants to start the future now. plus maybe spike wentz's jersey sales some.

Pittsburgh and most of Virginia and West Virginia switched away from our game, but look at all those new fans in North Dakota

I was against starting him..I figured after the bye would be the best.

But you know what? farg it let it rip. Some players have said that they are glad they played right away and others are more cautious and preferred to sit.

smeags

pretty much, this way we don't have to sit around and wonder as Daniel makes sanchez look all world.

It is what it is, and it's not like I'm rooting against him. I just look at it like this...riding the bench for a few games or even a full season has never prevented a QB from living up to his potential. It's not like Aarons Rodgers would somehow be even better had he not sat for 2 years.  And considering everything the Eagles have invested in this kid, I think they're being foolish.  Maybe he still balls out. I hope he does. But even if he throws for 5000 yards this year, it still doesn't change the fact they're being reckless with their own future right now.

Eagles_Legendz

I don't really get the reckless argument.  If you want to start him after the bye anyway, how is it reckless to play him against Cleveland, Chicago, and Pittsburgh?  The Eagles OLine, as currently constructed, is actually above average until Johnson gets suspended and Peters goes down.  This isn't the expansion Texans feeding Carr to the wolves, and they're playing mediocre/bad defenses before the bye.

If they were opening with Seattle & Denver I might agree.

hbionic

Agreed with Legendz.

You can't learn shtein on the bench. Your first time will always be your first time. It's like us, we will never know what its like to start as an NFL QB until we get out on the field and take a snap. We only know so much from watching on TV.

that is incorrect. especially at QB.

either way, the guy is starting sunday. I just hope the kid makes it after Johnson and peters are gone.

Apparently the Birds are going with the green/white combo on Sunday. First time they're using that combo for a September day game at home since 9/25/2011 against the Giants, and before that, you have to go back to the last year of the Vet when expansion Houston came to town and Dawkins had the "quadrifecta"
