Just another strategy you have to employ while drafting, but I'm guessing it's mostly because people like seeing higher weekly scores.

Won the one I'm in 2 years straight 6-2 this year.  Hate all you want but I'm up 2G

First league I ever played in had 3 flex positions and you could use any position you wanted.  A few dudes were rolling out with 3 QBs each week, but most were RB heavy.

Riveting as this conversation is, if we got rid of the kicker it would be replaced by an extra bench spot or we would just reduce roster size by one. I'm not looking reinvent the wheel. Just get rid of the farging kickers.
