I've been sick as a dog the last few days and finally hit the wall around 7:30 last night.  Missed the game, but thankfully, the estimable Mrs. Rome recorded it for me, so I just finished watching it.

Holy shtein that was a vicious game from the defense.  Carolina's offensive line is hideous and Newton is a shell of himself because of injury, but still... they were rampaging from the start.  Freaking Connor Barwin?  Seriously??  And is it really possible that someone has finally figured out how to get the best out of Brandon Graham?

The highlight for me was Sproles' punt return.  I didn't check highlights or anything before I watched but the moment I saw the kick head down the middle of the field, I literally giggled to myself.  Gruden's comment after the return was hilarious.  How can anyone kick the ball down the seam and give that guy two choices on where to run? 

Nice job by Celek & Jordan Matthews on offense.  It's amazing how these clowns continue to get random contributions from players week after week.  The Panthers were determined to shut down Maclin and Shady.  Congrats!  It worked like a charm.  Oh, but then there's Celek & Matthews to contend with.  And how about Sanchez?  It wasn't all great, admittedly.  He missed some open guys, fumbled a couple times, and could have been picked a couple of times, but he looked really good considering he hasn't played in two years.  His mobility has to have Chipper short stroking it thinking what they might accomplish with him back there.

Anyway, fun game, great result against a really terrible team... sorry I missed it live but now shtein gets real in Lambeau.   Looking forward to seeing if this team is legit against a solid contender.

PS: How great would Kelvin Benjamin be in this offense?  farging Marcus Smith.  Christ...

I'm having a lot of trouble adjusting to the idea that this defense might actually be good. I'm not sure I'm ready to actually say it out loud, but I'm thinking about it. Stay tuned for more hard hitting updates.

It's certainly been better than feared.  I'd still like to see a few less big plays given up by the defensive backs.
