I'm having a lot of trouble adjusting to the idea that this defense might actually be good. I'm not sure I'm ready to actually say it out loud, but I'm thinking about it. Stay tuned for more hard hitting updates.

I still think a good quarterback or a tightly reffed game can take advantage of the secondary.  Allen is mediocre, Cary gets lost at times, and Fletcher is way too physical downfield some games.  Jenkins has been a rock though and it has helped a lot.

The front seven I think is legitimately good.  That takes a hit with Ryans out, but Barwin/Cole/Graham are getting consistent pressure off the ends, Kendricks has been very good when he's played, and the front 3 is incredibly stout against the run.

Before we go stroking each other about the pressure, 19 of the 32 sacks for this defense were in two games (Giants and Panthers). In the other seven games, that's an average of less than two sacks per game.  I'd like to see that get more consistent.

I don't think they were getting much pressure early in the year.  They also were harassing Kap as I remember in the Niners game.  They disrupted Fitzpatrick and Palmer a lot too without the sack numbers being there, but those two games highlight some of the weaknesses as well with the big plays -- when the pressure doesn't bring down the QB (or you have a veteran QB who can see where the blitz is coming from like Palmer) the secondary is still way too susceptible to big plays.

That being said, I think the defense is pretty good right now.  Not great - the back four isn't good enough to be great - but pretty good.

I do agree that the defense is showing much more than we expected.  It could even be a top-10 or better defense if the backfield gets addresses in the offseason.

This is a strange team. Are they really as good as their record? If so is it because the rest of the league is that bad? They don't seem to have any one strength they can hand their hat on offensively or defensively. Every week it is something different so in a weird way other teams don't have those one or two things to take away. And it is not even like their are scrappy, or over performing like last year. They get turnovers at key times but going into last night they were still one of the worst +/- teams in the league. Somehow they make it work. I think they have just enough unpredictability and controlled chaos that it gives them that edge.

The league is really bad this year. The NFC South might send a 6 win team to the playoffs.

How much will it hurt to see that 6-win team win the SuperBowl after beating the Eagles in the playoffs?

I'm pretty sure this is an AFC super bowl year.

Chip said in today's press conference that he isn't happy with how the offense played last night, and it wasn't just the lack of rushing

Rome

They didn't run the ball worth a damn, so he has a point.

It was basically a McNabb game. Overthrown passes half the time, balls bouncing off the receivers a quarter of the time.

Sanchez was spot on after the first quarter with the exception of timing on bubble screens.  It was against a bad defense so it needs to be qualified but "terribly inaccurate" is terribly inaccurate.  Hit people in stride more this game than Foles did most of the year.

PhillyPhreak54

Sanchez stepped up in the pocket and was mobile unlike Foles who has the mobility of a paraplegic.

He also had several pretty nice throws where he needled the ball into a tight spot.
