In inquiring about the near-term future of the Phils last Sunday, I did not expect to see that look, upon approaching Amaro at Citizens Bank Park with a thesis (paraphrased here): "My assumption is that with a payroll already around $170 million, a bunch of veterans under contract, Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez already signed, this isn't a winter where you do big things. Right?"

No need to paraphrase Amaro's immediate answer, which came with the aforementioned look: "Nope."

"Oh," I said, taken aback.  "So you're going to be your usual creative self and explore all crazy possibilities?"

"Yep."

Votto has super-high OBP so that aspect of it isn't too interesting, everyone not named Miguel looks like crap in comparison... the way funnier/sadder part is that combined Grit and Chooch only have 135 more appearances.

Ha - Awful call at 2b that ruled Juan Pierre safe on a pickoff when he never got back to the bag was balanced out by an awful call at 1b where the pitcher "tagged" the runner with his bare hand... with the ball still in the glove.

I can't remember being this disinterested in the bums in forever.  At least when they sucked ass before there was always some small, tiny little glimmer wether it be a few studs on the team or a few young bucks on the way up, last years of the Vet, the new ball park, etc..  Hard to get jacked about Ruf, Asche, Galvis, Eathan Martin and the rest on Gilligan's Island.  The picture of Smug and Monty on the other thread really brought me down.
