For me, its simply the fact that my name is attached to it that makes me work hard.  I don't care if it's school, athletics or digging holes in the ground.  I don't even care if there's some sort of payoff at the end.  If the body of work is going to be identified as mine, then I'm going to put the effort in to make sure it represents me the best way possible.  That isn't intelligence.  It's pride and self respect and the only person who can give that to you is yourself.

dont think about yourself and how you were raised

think about the environments these kids are coming from. they dont have the same mindset as you did, they dont have the same values and didnt have the same upbringing.

culture raises children. its how you become who you are. and a lot of the cultures in america fail their children.

my middle class jewish one didnt. your (working class military?) didnt either. thats why we contribute to society (sort of, for me) and thats why failed college athletes dont.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

It's actually got nothing to do with how I was raised.  My parents never had any conversations with me about taking pride in my work.  They never had too.  Maybe I was just "born with it."  It's not a complicated issue imo.  You either care about your work or you don't.  I don't understand how a person can take pride in doing one thing but not another.  School, athletics, whatever....it's just one challenge after another and another opportunity for me to compete.

you were raised in an environment where education was taken seriously from the parents to the teachers. you didnt go to schools where kids bring shivs and uzis and where the textbooks are from 1955. where a day of zero violence and zero arrests is a great day.

other people were.

they only thing they can think of is hitting it rich in the pros. thats how they think theyre gonna do. look at allen iverson. no one worked harder on the court than that little dude. but lets just say he didnt work "as hard" in the classroom. why? why the farg you think.

The BCS ruling vacated the results of the 2005 Orange Bowl -- the national title game for 2004 -- as well as the Trojans participation in the 2006 Rose Bowl, in which USC lost to Texas, 41-38, in the championship game.
As a result of the BCS's Presidential Oversight Committee ruling, there will be no BCS national champion in the record book for the 2004-05 season.
