this is actually the best possible path...better for it to be directly over land and head up into landlocked part of the country....could have been way worse if it road the east coast

could have been way worse for us

im in upstate ny for the next two weeks so doesnt effect me but in general you want this beast over land not feeding off water and farging with the entire east coast

If it rode the east coast that would have meant the strongest part of the storm never hits land....but yeah the storm surge would have been disastrous.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Rome

Unbelievable.

Simply incredible.

General_Failure

My phone says we're expecting 45 mph winds here, gusts of 75. I should probably bring in the last of the potted plants today, I guess.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Jose actually has higher winds than Irma right now. The Cuban coastline has knocked the bitch down a peg.

Developments have been relatively good, but there's no precedent for this track -- we can't really know what to expect based on past hurricanes. It will be moving so parallel to the west coast of Florida that it's impossible to know where, or even if, it will make landfall. Wind shear is coming which will prevent the storm from reintensifying much after today, so even if it goes into the Gulf it probably won't grow back into a Cat 5 monster before hitting the panhandle.

Rome

It's going to be an interesting 12 hours when this whore finally hits.

Geowhizzer

After the 5pm update last night, we made the decision to head out after all.  Heavy traffic all night, but it moved the entire night.  Made it to my mother's house in about 15 hours, not terrible for the distance.  I'm getting too old for the overnight drive, though!  Enjoying some cooler weather in the Georgia mountains rather than huddling in my boarded-up house awaiting Irmageddon.

If this thing actually rides the west coast and hits Tampa, it'll probably blow back up to at least a four before it makes landfall.  If it goes to the panhandle, it could be back to a five.  The further off the peninsula it is, the better it probably is for me, since I'm inland a bit.  I don't have to worry much about storm surge.

This storm is stringing Florida along like SD's baby mama.

Rome

I'm happy that you got the farg out, Geo.  It is not looking good for southwest Florida right now.  But we still don't know what the farg it's going to do.  Whatever.  I'm just fatigued by the whole thing.  It feels like we're waiting to get ass-raped in a Turkish prison, and to get us excited about it, they're showing us "King Of Queens" on an infinite loop.

Eagles_Legendz

Good luck Rome.  Glad you got to safety geo.  I was in ATL last weekend with some friends.  Crazy that this could still be a hurricane potentially if/when it gets there.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

this one says asheville nc which is in the friggin mountains will have 50 mph winds monday night...50 is basically nothing as storms go but the fact that it will be that stong completely landlocked on monday night in a mountainous region is pretty crazy
