So much hinges on when the storm makes that hard turn, and I'm doubtful they are going to have a good idea about that until shortly before it happens. So not only is this storm a real monster, but everyone on the Florida peninsula has to prepare as if it's coming right for them.

I got a hotel on the west side of Orlando for Sunday and Monday.  At worst my house is gone when I get back.  At best I get to wait till the all clear sounds then head back to find whatever the fates have in store for us.  Either way my family will be safe and that's all I really give a shtein about anyway.

Out of the storm surge obviously, but Orlando has a 15% chance of experiencing sustained hurricane force winds according to the NHC. (Compare: Miami 47%, Naples 19%, Daytona beach 18%)

Govt offices are closed here starting tomorrow thru Monday at least.  As far as it coming up the middle of the state, that's fine.   The place we're staying is a resort built recently so I'm not worried about wind or anything from that perspective. 

I've seen what storm surge does up close.  You hide from the wind and run from the surge.   I'm not taking any chances that way.

The latest (which seems to change during every update): The storm has definitely centered in on South Florida.  It's weakened a bit and is now going to probably strike southernmost Florida as a Cat 4 before marching directly up the middle of the state.  If the track continues, we may actually be better off staying right where we are, although I was told last night that the barrier islands are almost certainly going to be placed under mandatory evacuation orders. 

Amazing how we roll the dice with our "plan" only to be sitting here less than 48 hours away from this motherfarger slamming into us without any clue as to what to do.  If we didn't have to report to work because of our jobs, I'd be in South Jersey already.
