The Cleveland Browns are poised to launch Plan B at quarterback.

B, for Brady, that is.

The club was unable to sign starter Derek Anderson to a three-year, $20 million contract - $10 million guaranteed - before Friday's 12:01 a.m. free agency deadline and are prepared to turn their high-powered offense over to Brady Quinn, a first-round pick from last year and fan favorite.

On Thursday, Browns general manager Phil Savage protected the club by tendering Anderson a one-year contract offer for $2.5 million in 2008. Anderson did not accept the deal, making him a restricted free agent and on the market.

The Browns would get first and third-round draft picks if Anderson signs elsewhere.

Armed with $44 million in salary cap room, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent very little time spending some of their rare bounty, reaching an early Friday morning contract agreement with unrestricted free agent center Jeff Faine, who played with the New Orleans Saints the past two years.

Contract details were not immediately available, but league sources said the deal will make Faine one of the NFL's highest paid centers and surpass the six-year, $36 million contract that another former New Orleans center LeCharles Bentley, signed with Cleveland as a free agent in 2006.

Sure, they have Brady Quinn, but Anderson is now a known commodity at the most important position in the game.

I think this deal is a good one for both sides.
Anderson gets $20 million to continue to fight for a starting position, and he gets out of his contract when he is 27 years old, perfect time to cash in.
Browns get a solid starter for next year. If Brady doesn't work out, they can try and resign Anderson .
If he does work out they can trade him with a year left on his deal and get a first day draft pick, while Anderson gets a new contract from his new team.

Pretty genius if you ask me.
But nobody did, so I'll shut up now.
