I don't know anything about Griner but yeah, I can't see through to how anyone might think it was an acceptable risk to possess illegal drugs in Russia.  I conclude therefore that thinking is not this person's main.

I'm willing to say that if you're accidentally bringing drugs into an authoritarian country, you aggressively don't have your shtein together as a human. Sucks hard to be turned into a geopolitical football over some bullshtein, and no one deserves this, but I don't doubt that she really is guilty of violating the law as written over there.
