in celebration of this great day i present you with the moment i fell in love with michael robert richards

november 10, 2005
a rookie playing in just his 14th nhl game
the gawd sees his team getting dominated
in a first period they are down 2-0
so he takes things into his own hands
and challenges the toughest guy on new york
something that you simply dont see from rookies
he also shows unbelievable respect for a first year player
by taking off his helmet before the fight because it contains a face shield
after this fight the flyers take control of the game
score three consecutive goals for the win

ill never forget it

Outside of the Phillies making the playoffs, this is the best Philadelphia sports news for me all year.  IGY you might have to fight me for Mike Richard's love.  And I probably won't take off my visor.

I dont even need to watch the video, if its what i'm thinking its Richards vs Asham for the Isles

the main reason the length concerned me was obviously injury or him just totally becoming awful...but i forgot that if you put a guy on the long term injury list or he retires due to injury his contract doesn't count against the cap, same thing with sending a player down to the minors, the cap hit doesn't count
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

to me a 10-12 year deal is like signing him now to a five year deal and then resigning him to another five or six year deal in 2011 or 12...

in other words to get screwed by this contract you would have to have a blatantly obvious reason to not sign him to that hypothetical second five or six year deal when hes like 27...and the chances of that being the case with a guy who is 22 right now are miminal imo...not to mention he could also want a max deal in five years

i think the timonen contract is more risky than the richards one

i must be thinking of sd eagle then...someone was telling me at a tailgate that they wanted a richards jersey but didnt wanna to get it then have him leave in a couple years

oh and they didnt make richard jerseys in 2004...you mean two years ago

I had mine made by NHL.com  Got it embroidered personally before he officially became a flyer.  I was praying that he would keep #18
