QuoteSHURMUR TO SPARTANS?

A league source tells us that Eagles quarterbacks coach Pat Shurmur has emerged as the primary candidate for the head coaching job at Michigan State University, and that he is expected to get the job.  Another source tells us that there is mutual interest, but that it is "nowhere near a done deal."

Shurmur has been with the Eagles for eight years, and he has been the quarterbacks coach for five seasons.  He was an All-Big Ten center and team captain at Michigan State, and he is the nephew of the late Fritz Shurmur, defensive coordinator of the 1996 Packers.

Michigan State recently announced that head coach John L. Smith won't return in 2007.  Former 49ers and Lions coach Steve Mariucci has indicated that he is not interested in the job, per Adam Schefter of NFLN.  We reported last week that the Spartans wanted to lure former Michigan State head coach Nick Saban back to East Lansing from Miami, but we've learned in various discussions with league and industry sources that Saban genuinely has no interest in the job.

i can't imagine why saban wouldn't want to leave miami for lovely lansing.

This would be a great move for the Eagles.

Maybe a new QB coach could teach McNabb some finer points like when ahead by 2 or 3 scores going into the 4th quater, don't keep snapping the ball with 8 seconds left on the clock. Or how to look off a DB, or use a pump fake and go long against a singled upĀ  DB who has just intercepted you twice for a TD by aggressively jumping routes (of course this might blow McNabb's chance to present Barber at his HOF induction). Or innovations like strapping a barfbag rather than a towel through the belt when in Florida. It could even have an Eagles logo. NFL properties would take note.

nothing will change with mcnabb until reid goes and mcnabb isnt coddled and isnt allowed to live in the cozy little utopian comfort zone that hes resided in for the last eight years

You're assuming that McNabb is capable of learning some finer points.

Soooo....all the other 31 coaches around the NFL throw thier QB under the bus all the time and talk badly about them when they have bad games?

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

ice grillin you

theres an area between throwing someone under the bus and babying him....thats where mcnabb needs to be...but its not going to happen as long as reid is there

i suppose there is also the possibility that reid treats mcnabb with kid gloves because mcnabb is not able to handle anything more forceful

however we will never know the answer to these questions until reid is ousted which is why he needs to be fired while mcnabb still has good years left in him

And once again, no one knows how Andy handles Donovan in a closed door setting. You, and others,  assume that since Reid is so "blah" at the PC's that means he is like that when coaching them. Fact is - we don't know what goes on. We do know that Andy did say publicly that he wanted the ball in the end zone in TB when asked what happened.

we have heard numerous players over he years intimate and just about come out and say that mcnabb is reids child and treats him differently than all other players....everyone knows this...even people in utah

its just a question of does he do this because mcnabb is his boy his pick and in general hes just not that kind of coach

or

does he do it because he knows it would destroy mcnabbs fragile psyche

Most coaches treat their best player differently than others.  Especially the QB.
