Jerry Jones lines up two Rooney Rule interviews

Adhering to the path that the taterskins blazed a year ago with a sham in-house interview that complied with the letter but not necessarily the spirit of the Rooney Rule, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that he'll interview receivers coach Ray Sherman for the head-coaching job in Dallas, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.  Jones also will be interviewing another minority candidate, whose name has not yet been disclosed but who apparently is a current member of the coaching staff.

"I'll do both [interviews]," Jones said.  "Not that it's the rule, but I will do both.  It's just too logical for me, if we've got qualified people on our staff, to interview them.  And it's too illogical to say that you'll leave it at that.  There's qualified people out here that you would want to interview."

In the event that the "mad as hell" Jones is considering firing the entire coaching staff after the regular-season finale, it makes sense to interview any minority candidates on the payroll now, before they're fired and less inclined to be cooperative in the hopes of not, you know, being fired.

That Rooney rule is dumb. In theory you could interview a homeless black guy living in a box outside the stadium and uriating in a jar and fulfill the letter of the law. What the rule should be is that you have to alternate oppressed minoritiy everytime you hire a coach/GM. This should include; women, homosexuals, blacjs, hispanics, eskimos, jews, Injuns and Mexicans but not Chinese/Japanese/Korean.

The field has been full of black players for decades and decades....yet the coaching teams and front offices continue to look like your average american corporate board of directors.  Obviously, something is wrong.

But let's not talk about it.  Like our emotional problems, growing lumps, and children, if we just ignore the issue, it will go away.

There are roughly 7 black head coaches in the NFL (give or take). The U.S. is roughly 13% black. Lets cut that number in half because women don't coach professional sports, and you have (I'll round up) 7%. If there are 32 teams with 7 black head coaches isn't the % of black head coaches to positions greater than their % of population? Why is it they're so worried about the NFL and not other sports? The whole thing is ridiculous.
