The nationwide shortage on drivers is real...as evidenced by the outrageous rates the OTR guys are charging to ship loads. And it trickles down to getting temp drivers to cover shifts for us.

So if anyone out there wants a job - go drive a truck and you'll be in good shape.

Good luck, Sarge!

Our drivers have it easy and are paid quite well. The company negotiated ridiculously excellent rates for our drivers. We have the highest paying acct in our company and 10 of the 15 highest paid drivers in our company work for me. And we don't do any OTR. Richmond Va and Pittsburgh is as far as we go. Our drivers are home every night...with the rare eexception of them running out if hours and we have to put then in a hotel.  Drivers in our area are chomping at the bit to get on with us. We haven't had to hire anyone since June, but have probably had 3-4 dozen applications dropped off and countless phone calls to see if we're hiring.

Even with the nationwide shortage, I could have a driver walk out on me right now and have a replacement hired by the end of the day and on the road by Friday.

You're missing out on an opportunity to continue to not see J despite his relative proximity.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Haha nice.

Living here sucks btw - tonight's episode was it taking me AN HOUR AND FORTY fargING MINUTES TO GO FIVE MILES.

Traffic light out? Makes sense that it would cause that much of a backup between my office and home.

Goddamn shteinbag city

Is Houston really that bad? Ladyfriend wants to go anywhere w/ lots of tertiaries and I'm open to going anywhere to get the hell out of the NYC area. Houston is one of the landing zones we've thought about

Yeah it can be. I'm five miles from the office and this is the longest it's taken me. Most of the time it's 20min but if anything goes awry then it'll double or triple. I'm on the northwest side and by my place a ton of office buildings have popped up recently. GE Oil and Gas has a huge complex down the street and they have cops out blocking traffic so those fargs can exit the lot. That is what adds time to the commute.

But the rest of the city isn't much better. Adding in feeder roads the Katy freeway (I-10) is 12 lanes wide in spots and that shtein is at a standstill during rush hours.

Galleria area where 610 and 59 intersect is routinely one of the worst traffic areas in the country.

One reason I haven't bought a house is because getting outside of the city will cost your ass hours of commuting time. My buddy built a place in Cypress which is about 20 miles from our office. He's mainly an outside guy so he doesn't have to come in all the time but when he does he's looking at 60-90 minutes depending on the day. His wife works downtown which is worse. They're already looking to sell to get closer and avoid the insanity.

The economy is great here and the cost of living is pretty good (high compared to the rest of the state but peanuts compared to the east coast).

Come down here for a week and drive around and see if you like it before making that move.

On a side note getting in and out of Minute Maid is easy bc it's always empty lol

ice grillin you

nyc to houston is....

It's not like we're even close to committing. Houston is on the list but takes a back seat to Charlotte, Philly, Chicago, DC, whatever. It's an idea that was backed up by zero research other than "there's big hospitals there". Good thing I have my CF brethren to knock some sense into me.

Igy did you live around NYC once? Feel like you did. I work on Long Island mostly but we also have an office in midtown a block from Central Park. Even in a nicer part of the city, I'd go insane if I had to go there frequently.

PhillyPhreak54

Yeah there are several excellent hospitals here. The medicine is second biggest field in the city I think behind oil and gas

Houston is all the ugly sprawl of LA, none of the culture and no beach.  Oh, and you are in Texas, heartland of the American Taliban.

Yeah I agree. And even though we have Galveston I don't consider it a beach because it sucks
