They're sending all the employees (about 75% from my office...not me) who can't make their numbers to a remedial class down in West Virginia. It's at some compound, every one I've spoken to says it blows. $0 for per diem, they serve your food cafeteria style, the rooms are like dorms, and there ain't shtein to do...plus they had issues with bed bugs.

yeah in general you are teflon in the govt......im in a union which protects me even more than a non bargaining unit employee but if my work tried to send me on a trip like sd is talking about id say farg off im not going and they wouldn't do a damn thing about it

you might not always make as much in the govt.....but the benefits job security and workplace conditions are untouchable

Our union is utterly useless...I won't give them a dime. People who can't make their points are being sent so our agency can cover their ass when the same people can't make production.., that way they can say "we offered you help" when they firs them. A bunch of us had to go to a meeting today...they're pulling the highest producers from each team and making a super team to end the backlog. It's effective immediately. Really not thrilled with the change but tough shtein.

This x infinity. I'm in KC right now because our operation out here is a disaster and the operations manager (female) literally doesn't have a clue what is going on. Practically every question I ask her is answered with "I don't know."  I think the only reason she hasn't been fired yet is because the project manager out here was even worse. 

I really shouldn't single her out because no one out here wants to take ownership of anything to try and fix it, but she's the boss (for now) and attitude reflects leadership. If "I don't know" is good enough for her,  then it's going to be good enough for everyone else. I'd love to stay longer to help right this ship, but this is probably a 6mo rebuilding project and I just can't give up that kind of time right now... Not unless there's a major promotion or bonus in it for me.

Met with her this morning.  Nice lady, yadda yadda ya.  shtein's farged up, she' not able to answer my questions.  Has to take it to a committee of other know-nothings (no, not them Geo,) and bat it around for a while.  Me?  Oh right, guy with truck, tools muscles and brains...yeah, farg you.  You're done for the day.  2 hours, feed your family on that.

But hey, everyone is being really nice to each other.  Maybe my bank will take that in lieu of the mortgage.

So here's the lowdown. The undersecretary of the va came to our office a few weeks ago. The week before she shows they discover 5000 claims that were past due and never worked. In other words someone in the front office farged up. So the undersecretary goes through the inventory and tells them "fix this, I don't care his you do it"...so they took thd top producers from each team to fix the problem. They tried lying to us bug thd truth finally leaked. Hope your claim gets finished soon. If its been pending longer than a year you can throw a fit and they'll bend over backwards to get it done st this point.

I got promoted and transferred to my local district office a while back and it's been absolutely glorious.  My boss and colleagues are amazing, my commute went from 35-45 minutes each way to 10 each way, and the autonomy I have in this office is 180 degrees better than the last district.  My new director is roughly the same age as me, but started 4 years before I did, hence the advancement he had thru the department.  He basically gave me an entire area to do and said hit it, no questions asked.  Amazing.  He even made a point to say "thank you" to me in a department meeting after I came in early from the other district to help out.

When you add the raise and gas savings each week my raise was about 20 percent too.  I know it's easier to bitch about your job, and trust me, I hated mine for a long time, but I'm a lucky son of a bitch right now.   I hope it lasts...
