So I interviewed for a full time Air Force gig (AGR).  As a newly promoted major with over 12 years it looks like the base pay is $82 grand and with BAH around $99.  It would probably be a 5 year tour in Richmond.  The state job has to be kept during that time and I come back to it at the same pay and level.  This would be a pretty significant increase in pay for me.  In the mean time, I am hoping my boss will retire since I can't get promoted until he leaves.  Any thoughts?

The state job is safe and secure and no stress.  I am definitely in line for promotion as I have been told by all of upper management.  Pro-more money and change of duties.  Con - possible increased stress and being viewed negatively by current management.

If you can get an AGR gig, then go for it. I've looked at that as a means of finishing my 20 but every state I've looked at has the same policy that basically says you can't have more than 15 yrs ACDU time accumulated. I've got 17 yrs.  I'm sure it's waiverable so if I can find the right position in the right location, I still may throw an application together.
Definitely.  There are a bunch of them out there but you may have to consider the Army.  Shudder.  And IGY, please stay in Maryland.

Sometimes my job sucks.  In fact a lot of the time it's tedious and just plain awful.  There are rare occasions that it's pretty cool and tomorrow is one of those days.  We've having our annual "diversity" day, and basically what that means is we prepare traditional fare and have a pot luck brunch during the day.  My boss is from Denver so he's bringing Colorado Spare Ribs, another co-worker is from the Eastern Shore, so she's bringing crab cakes, and so on.  I made Irish Shepherd's Pie with Yuengling Porter tonight and it is farging spectacular tasting.   Seriously, I wish you idiots could taste it because it's that good.

Oh, and we get to wear our football jerseys to work too.  Last chance to wear Mike Vick and I'm totally wearing that bitch.

I've clocked between 65-75hrs a week for the last three weeks.

I'm fried.

I am going to get spectacularly drunk tomorrow night.

I have off on Monday (Super Bowl hangovers suck) then I have off next Monday & Tuesday (Flogging Molly Green 17 FTW).

YAY GUBMENT JOBZ!

My job is cool right now because I'm in the middle of the biggest job I've ever taken solo: replacing a 475 square foot pool deck.  I'm busted up tired from digging lately, but you jocks might appreciate that it's a good soreness and a good exhaustion.  It's nice to work, to be strong and to do things.  I'm not always going to be able to do hard labor, or tolerate the elements.  It's actually a good time every day lately.  I brought my Rottweiler to work with me today.  She stayed off the pool cover, which was nice.  Smart dogs, Rottweilers.

For the first time in my long life, I get to operate one of our machines today. It will probably be a medium wheel loader and I'm definitely going to dig a ditch with it.

we fired a guy about 3 months who was our in house IT support, safety manager, and document control manager because he did none of those jobs.  i inherited his responsibilities and have been rocking that shtein since.  i plan on asking for 25% of his salary as a raise because they eliminated a salary, the production in those areas picked up without replacing it.  seems fair to me.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

DH

did they at least give you a bump when you took over the responsibilties?

SunMo

negative.   they said they would look at it in a few months (which is around now) to see how i handled it.  obviously i'm kicking ass.

i also saved the company 1.2M in work that i sub-contracted to other firms because we were so busy last year.  nada trickle down on that.

Yep, total horseshtein. My company does the same thing as a matter of standard practice. They dump extra responsibility on you with promises of riches to come. farg that.

I was thinking the same thing, Chuggie.

Companies have been royally farging over workers since time began.  Let me know if you ever find a company that doesn't farg you over because I'll apply for a job there in a heartbeat.
