Sarge, if you know you might be getting out soon save your fitreps and make sure you keep your medical records handy. The day you're out or even before file with the VA for disability. If I were you I'd get a disability settlement, use the new GI Bill, and work part time. I know your situation and all but you'll be surprised how much you can make utilizing those three things.

I did my own Government resume so if you need tips let me know. I've been fine tuning mine, it's an ongoing process thought because you tailor it to fit job descriptions. Also, Veteran's have a program called VECS which helps you do your resume and find a job.

Interview went well, there were 2 people conducting the interview. They asked 5 PBI questions then a couple of questions about my resume. Feel pretty good about getting the position but we'll see.

2 things about my job pissing me off today.

1.  Got orders to go to Miramar in San Diego in August.  SD is great but I want to get the farg out of Cali.  This state is broke, the economy sucks and it's not going to get any better any time soon.  Hell, gas prices will hit $4.00/gal by the end of the week most likely.  Living in the high desert area is expensive enough and my cost of living will more than double with this move.

2.  2 Marines stood NJP for adultery.  A male Sgt and female Cpl were both reduced in rank (which also results in a loss of pay), restricted to the barracks for 45 days and also got 45 days of extra duty (which is basically 2 hours a day of cleaning, painting, etc).  I hate the fact that in the military adultery is a crime.  Adultery is a religious sin and shouldn't even be part of military law imo.  I don't have a problem with the fact that the military holds us to higher personal standards than the civilian world and that our off duty actions can carry significant weight on our careers, but I think this is over the top and out of date.

In all my years in the Navy I never saw anyone go to mass for adultery. That must be a jarhead thing cause every person I know in the Navy cheated on their spouses on deployment. Everyone.

Good luck, it sounds like the kind of work (if bureaucracy doesn't get in the way) you can feel good about doing, which is a big plus in life.

On deployment is one thing and there's that "unwritten rule" about it.  These were 2 Marines (both married) who were having a relationship with each other.  In a nutshell, what happened was the guy's wife found text messages and took it to the command and the command charged them with adultery.  I don't feel too bad for these specific individuals because it's been suspected for quite some time because they were spending so much time together and both Marines were counseled and told that they need to stop sending time together, so they were both given an opportunity to end their relationship (or at the very least, do a better job of covering their tracks) but they both opted not to.  So shame on them in that regard for being stupid.  I just think it's ridiculous that adultery is still a punishable offense.

Not for nothing, Sassy, but couldn't you catch shtein for blasting the military in a public forum like this?

On my first ship, the Captain (his name was Steve Miller, biggest icehole to ever walk on the face of the Earth) was having an affair with the CHENG's (Chief Engineer) wife. The Captain was also married. Know what his punishment was? The CHENG got removed from the ship and the Captain made 0-6.

In some cases, yes. But I don't think it really applies here because I'm not complaining about a specific person in my command like the Commanding Officer and I'm not complaining about the way my squadron handled this event. Just complaining about a single article of military law.  And its not like I'm just blasting away on it, just saying that i think the law is outdated.

I've got almost 17 years of service.. So if someone wants to.come at me over something this petty, then let them.

That's my last resort. I don't want to take a medical separation although I'm not sure if the thought of staying in California until I retire is really the motivation I'm looking for to stay in either.

Don Ho

Sarge, I know you told me this but aren't you in San Diego now?  My niece is getting married and her fiance is currently stationed at Kaneohe.  He is going to Fallon, NV in May or June.  What do you know about it?  He loved Kaneohe.  Best beach in the state is on the base.
