Okay...so the ongoing tale from my workplace. I've been told that we can only have 1 "IT" person in the department, and I'm not it. Apparently we have a corporate need for more Six Sigma Black Belts, so I'm also being pushed in that direction, with training to commence in September. In the meantime, I'm being handed a bunch of eco-regulatory compliance stuff to do. Frankly, I have less interest in doing this stuff than I have knowledge of what it all is. And that's precious little.

From what I can tell, the Six Sigma thing is "hot" (career wise) right now, but the thought of doing all that custerfarg stuff is making my stomach turn.

I do not miss the corporate world at all.

Pretty much my thoughts. I can't stand that shtein, and the thought of it being my only career direction here is stressing me out.

Stress will shorten your career as a human with the quickness.

True. I'm a (barely) living example of that.

How much longer is it worth it then?  Quit.

Set yourself up consulting.  Or get a different job.  I don't know.

Life is short, I know that.  And I don't think people lay dying, thinking to themselves, "I'm glad I stayed five years too long in that awful job."

that's probably going to be me.  i've got 5 yrs left until i retire.  my body hurts every day and is probably only going to keep getting worse.  i still enjoy the technical side of my job, which is logistics.  i enjoy working with other marines and mentoring the young guys coming up through the ranks.  but i literally hate the physical aspect of it now.  but farg me if i'm walking away from this shtein now without a pension.  only way i'm not sticking around until i get to 20 yrs of service is if they medically separate/retire me.

Diomedes

well so much for that idea

Pretty much how I think. My expression is "I don't think anybody, on their death bed, wishes they had one more day to spend at work."

I'm definitely working on a way out. And maybe more than one way.

anyone else get the feeling that we might end uptalking about sus in the mass shootings thread?

Susquehanna Birder

Nah...nobody on this world (or elsewhere) is worth doing that. And I'm not offing myself, either, so don't break out the party gear just yet.

Sgt PSN

so what's the plan?  are you digging a tunnel or something?  maybe escaping through the air vents?

I plan on changing my state to pure liquid, and seeping out of the cracks in the floor.
