Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

HALLA-fargING-JUHA!!

I have, in my inbox, two - count 'em, two - job offers that let me stay in St. Louis, and stay in my field (more or less).  The two offers was partly by design.  I knew for the past several weeks that I was getting an offer from one of them, and as soon as I did I called the other company to let them know I had it, but I wanted to keep talking to them because I was excited about what we were talking about.  They did exactly that, telling me they wanted to bring me on, and they were going to speed up the process.  So, they put me an offer together without having my final interview that was scheduled.

I'm leaning heavily towards one over the other, but I have to try to negotiate a couple of things.  I have until the end of this week to accept one or the other, and the start date for both is the second week of January.  If I start on the one I am leaning towards, I will start Jan 5th - which is one year and one day after my last paid date with my past company.  Thankfully I've had some contract and consulting work here and there, but this feels really good to have two companies vying for my affection.

:yay

Good deal, Demon.  Glad you're making headway in this economy.

Great news, Demon.  Congrats.

Went into work to find out my fate this morning. There was a conference room with about 20 of us in it. Turns out all 20 of us are whats the new Network Operations department. So I have a position in the new company and they're not cutting salary or benefits for at least a year that they know of. Except the pension. Everyone knows that is gone, or at least it won't get anymore paid into it.
Kind of sad to see so many folks I've worked with the last 10 years get laid off 2 weeks before the holidays. It doesn't leave a nice positive happy feeling about the company I work for that's for sure. At least I can take my time and look for a descent job and not feel rushed about it.

Well, it's official.  I just accepted a position with a company based out of S. Carolina, but get to work out of my house.  It will be pretty heavy on travel - probably 60-70% for 6 months as I get myself introduced and ingrained into all the sales offices, then will settle down to about 30-40%, which is a lot easier to handle.

I start on Jan 5th - one year and one day after my last paid day at the other job.
