I hate my job!

If all goes to plan, I have only 39 work days left before I resign.

But there's a kink:  I caught wind of an opportunity in the Baltimore area that fits like a glove, and got an interview.  Today at 2 p.m.  As part of the interview, I have to make a 15 minute presentation (on a topic of my choice) so they can evaluate my presentation skills.  (The role is an SAP trainer position.)  I'm hella nervous.

If this interview works out, I could be looking at bailing on the job sooner than 39 work days, which would make me just about the happiest cracker in town.  I'd have to leave a bonus of about ten grand on the table to jet, but in the long run, that won't matter.

I hate my job--more the company than the work.  The prospect of composing a letter of resignation in the next few days, rather than in a couple months, makes me pee myself a little.

I can see not hanging around for $10k if you're talking a matter of months... but weeks?  Wow.

Then again, Uncle Sam and the great state of New York will take about half of it anyway.

Good luck.  You might want to steer away from presenting the standard "Dio's a Misanthrope" stuff, though.  The Suits might not eat that up.

Seriously, good luck.  What would be better is getting them to give you a signing bonus to make up for the lost $10k.  Things like that happen all the time, and it never hurts to ask.

Yeah, it nets to around 5k.  People who think taxes are high in a social democracy like Sweden don't live in NYC.  They're awful close.  If I'm not employed by my current company on March 15, then I can't get the bonus (even though it's a payout for 2006 performance).  That's just part of the contract.  If I have to choose between hanging out for the bonus and taking the new job, it's a no brainer.  In the long run, it would be better to have a good job in the new locale than to show up jobless with some change in the bank account.

The subject of my presentation is "Mormons, Scientologists, and Children: Scourge of Earth."
Yeah, I'm going to play that angle if an offer is made.  I got an SB for my current job, so i know it's possible.

Good choice.  You never want to talk about controversial subject matters when applying for a job.

I like my job.  I work in radio.  Holla.  Shoutout to all the CF homies.

Interview and presentation went very well.  We'll see what happens next week.

Couple things about the job that I'm not liking, so even if they do offer, I may not take it.

Well, when you find that job where you like everything, let me know.  I'll get my resume in.

They don't allow drinking on the job or weed naps?

I get to spend time with 150 13- and 14-year olds every day, and try to teach them American History.

I love my job.

I'm freaking nuts.  :paranoid

Do any of them need a date for the prom?

Sorry, no outside guests are invited to the 8th grade celebration.  ;)

What a bunch of commies!

Ya, that's fine and dandy, but I'm gonna die someday, probably sooner than later, and I'm not looking to take something that makes me unhappy between now and then.  Further, I don't have a child, so I'm not in the "compromise anything for the sake of the kid" mode.

They're saying 35% travel, which I think is an optimistic estimate given how aggressive their project plan is, so I'm guessing more like 50%.   I'm not looking to be away from home that much.

I don't have an offer, so it's all conjecture right now.

I was breaking your stones.  I wouldn't take a job with more than 10% travel for any amount of money.  Well, that's a lie.  I'd take it if I could retire after a year.
