took a new job in late dec after being at my prev job for almost 13 years...took a paycut but i would've had a heart attack at the old job...high stress/long hours/working for & with aholes.  also went from a 30 min commute to a 30 second commute...no exaggeration.  i could walk to work if i weren't so lazy.  much less stressful job...no long hours or taking work home with me.  much better work/life balance.  life is good.  8)

Same sort of job? I need that.

very similar...went from plant controller to accountant/office mgr/prod scheduler.  just fell into a better situation with an experienced staff in place who actually do their own jobs with little supervision needed...and corporate mgmt that doesn't constantly bust balls & play the blame game.  and the place happened to be right down the street from my house.  got really lucky.  :yay

haha!  nice!
yeah, i read back in this thread a bit.  i'm worried i'd fall into the category of treating a wfh day as a day off.  going to the office forces me to stay on task & actually do some work in between posting on mb's.

i still like going in on mondays and fridays. def helps keep me focused and in a grove workwise. i just like that i got 8hrs of my life back a week by not traveling the turnpike 3days a week.

Nice. I'm so sick of the shtein I have to do and the people I have to do it for. I've been at my place for 15 years, and I've seen a lot of good people shown the door. It's high-stress,low fulfilling. But it pays the bills. Still, I'd like to be happier as I pay the bills.

i was at that point myself. i needed something to get me out of the funk. i took the WFH deal as a personal challenge to push myself to not be distracted while still putting up numbers at the top.

so far so good. the real challenge will be when my lil guy gets out of school for the summer next month.

Come on, man. He's in teaching, the kids will take care of that for him.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Similar boat with the talent simply not being retained over the past 10 years.  The bills and future bills is what keeps me motivated at this point.  My company is taking the Yahoo stance on telecommuting, so it'll be very interesting to see how things shake out with individuals who stayed solely for the flexibility.

I have three more years.  After that all bets are off.  I like my job, and my colleagues, especially here, are really cool, but my daughter is out of here in 2018, and my (our) options go from one to infinite when that day comes.

Thinking Fiji, actually.  Or Kauai...

Night shift at a warehouse in Houston, 9.80 per hour?

Sounds fun.

True but you get to wear your Eagles jersey to work and have the pleasure of yelling, PLEASE FIGHT ME every time you see the boss.

You can't put a price of that, Dio.

Good luck!  Are you set in staying near home or willing to move?  Second graders!  I give you credit man.  I coach high school soccer and after two hours I'm ready to strangle 3/4 of them or beat them silly with a clipboard.

I love the area I live in and am pretty set on staying here for life. If I didn't have any sort of obligations, and could guarentee myself a job when I came back, I'd totally consider taking a job for a year or two out in the middle of no where Montana or Wyoming or somewhere like that.

2nd graders are definitely a challenge, and I couldn't see myself going any younger than that. Any time I've subbed for Kindergarten, I've been exhausted at the end of the day. Can't imagine doing that every day.

Congrats Munson, sounds like you enjoyed this past gig, hope you find a good landing spot.

Yeah, I got lucky, had a great group of kids to work with. Praying I get a job in the same district if I can.

It's funny how people feel about different levels.  I've had many people (mostly jokingly) question my sanity over teaching middle schoolers.  But I'm at the point where I couldn't see myself teaching any other level.  8th grade is a lot of fun.

Good luck finding a job.

When I first started my degree, I thought I'd love middle school. Substitute teaching has kind of challenged that, but I also gotta remember I'm a substitute and subs just don't get the same respect. I am definitely willing to teach middle school social studies. 8th graders would probably be my preferred grade in middle school...6th and 7th graders are annoying.

He's spent the last 15 yrs posting on various Eagles message boards.  I'd say he's ideally suited for teaching 2nd graders.
