A former New York Giants fullback was arrested today and charged with possession with the intent to deliver crack cocaine and another drug-related charge, Wilmington police said.

According to Sgt. Steven Elliott, police received a complaint of drug activity in the 400 block of E. Fourth St. about 3:30 p.m.

When officers arrived they attempted detain a suspect who, Elliott said, was trying to hide several small packages in his mouth. The materials later tested positive for crack cocaine at a total weight of less than 1 gram.

The suspect was identified as Charles Stackhouse, 26, who listed his residence on the 100 block of Senatorial Drive in Greenville, Elliott said.

"Stackhouse revealed to the arresting officers that he used to play in the NFL as a running back," Elliott added.

According to Lt. Elmer Harris, several officers involved in the arrest also confirmed the man was who he said he was.

Bail information was not available.

Somehow I doubt that luck was the primary factor in his case being dismissed.

QuoteANOTHER BENGAL BUSTED

Man, you can't make this stuff up.

After a couple of quiet months, another member of the Cincinnati Bengals has gotten into trouble.

This time, it's receiver Reggie McNeal, who was arrested early Sunday for trying to get into a Houston nightclub after it had closed.

McNeal, a rookie, played quarterback in college for Texas A&M.

An off-duty Houston Police Department officer was working security at the club.  McNeal reportedly became aggressive and pushed the officer when he was told that he couldn't enter.

McNeal was also involved in the incident from earlier in the season that resulted in the banishment of linebacker OdellThurman and a one-game deactivation of Chris Henry.  It was McNeal's vehicle that Thurman was driving while intoxicated, and from which Henry was vomiting while Thurman was being arrested.

The Bengals have worked their way to 7-5 after a rocky start to the season.

QuoteANOTHER PLAYER ARRESTED

Maybe the NFL's theory is to get enough players arrested to make the fans and the media numb to it all.

We're being facetious (we think . . . and thanks, Tiki).  But there's got to be an explanation for this rash of arrests.  Or, more accurately, for the inability of the NFL and its 32 member teams to persuade its employees to not engage in behavior that might get them arrested.  Or get other people hurt.  Or worse.

The latest guy in handcuffs is Rams rookie tight end Dominique Byrd, a third-round draft choice out of USC.  The charge?  Stabbing a bar patron in the face with a broken bottle in the wee hours after the team's home loss to the Cardinals.

LAST UPDATE: 12/9/2006 7:34:10 AM

A Cincinnati Bengal was arrested Friday night for DUI.

Bengals cornerback Deltha O'Neal was charged with driving while intoxicated. Police officers were operating a DUI checkpoint in Pierce Township, Clermont County arrested O'Neal. The Ohio Highway Patrol said O'Neal was alone in his vehicle when he stopped at the checkpoint around 12:30 a.m.

Troopers say O'Neal was released on his own recognizance. He's scheduled to appear in Clermont County court on December 12.

O'Neal was the 8th Bengals player arrested this year.

How much do you guys think this is just the type of players that athletes have become, or is it more of the Police not covering up like they would do in the past?
