not really, Donovan's already said he's going to have surgery, it's just a matter of when.  so when the doctor recommends surgery to the player who's already decided to have surgery, it's not that big of a deal. 

what would be a big deal is if the doctor told him that he needs to have surgery now because there's nothing else he can do to get better.

i personally dont believe he has a groin injury...its pain in the groin via the hernia...as it has been since day one

now if he has an injury seperate from the hernia and he needs surgery on his groin then yes that is news...but he doesnt and isnt
