I wasn't suggesting that the prices should be frozen indefinitely.  I meant they should be frozen when catastrophies such as Katrina occur to prevent shameless profiteering by ethically challenged businesspeople.

Of course, being ethically challenged themselves, BushCorp. wouldn't recognize a moral course of action if it jumped up and bit them in the scrotum.

The spike this week is being driven by the fact that the MAIN PIPELINE to the Eastern Seaboard (and as far as Chicago and Denver) was knocked offline due to pump failure down south.  The gas isn't flowing to the distribution points.

Opening up the reserves isn't going to help a whole lot since we only lost about 10% of the refineries, the reserves contain crude not gas, so gas production is not in as bad a shape as the distribution network.

Hopefully they expect a 10-30 percent restoration of pipline activity by the weekend.   Of course once the pipeline is fixed and price would  be expected to start falling back, the whole refinery/crude production thing will catch up with us and prices will remain high    :boom

At $3.58 at tank of gas offically passes $100 for my truck   :o - thank god I take mass transit everday
Then I saw you doing sit-ups in front of a mall.  My dad told me that it was your house.

I paid $2.74 this morning.  I feel like I got a steal.

I just went to a station that was 2.85 (cheapest around here) to fill up the car. When I was pulling out not 10 minutes later, they were changing the numbers over to 2.99.

...and you told Morganti and Rhea about it...."millionaire"...  :deion

Prices already all over $3/gallon for regular here.  Just forked over $3.499/gal (premium) for a total of over $57.

Madness.

Well I'm kind of glad that I got that VW Diesel where I get 47 miles to the gallon. There are a few kits out there where I could run the car on veggy oil. If things get too bad I might start hitting up restaurants for used fryer oil.

Rome

Maybe the animals who're shooting New Orleans up could be transplanted around the country and start sticking up the gas stations who're ripping us off?

Yeah, that would be cool.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Can't we all band together and start walking, taking public transportation and carpooling everywhere so these gas stations don't do any business? Or at least buy magic carpets, segways, huver-crafts, airplanes and scooters.
