yeah hockey is basically the reason i got it.  a few of my buddies have bought them recently and i want to play them online.

how is fallout 3?  i've heard it's set here in DC and arlington.

Gears of War 1 and 2 are great shooters
Fable 2 is fun as farg but if you're not into exploring and all that stuff you won't like it
Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 is fun and you can probably find it for $20
Call of Duty 4
Bioshock is probably my favorite next gen game - it's a shooter
Assasins Creed - graphically the best next gen game, gets a little repetitive
Mass Effect - long ass game, graphically average, it's an RPG/FPS mix - you get to bang an alien
Ninja Gaiden 2 - not as good as the first one
Star Wars Force Unleashed - fun but disappointing

-Madden is worth getting, if you can get it on the cheap. 
-NHL 09 just might be the best sports game I've ever owned.  Ridiculously fun and deep.  Great game.
-Bioshock. Great game. Ending was a little on the anticlimactic side, but getting there was a lot of fun.
-Halo 3. I still throw that in for multiplayer fun. 
-Fallout 3.  Was sort of fun...but there's a lot of walking around and talking to people. I know people who loved it.  I didn't love it, but I can understand why some people did. I'd be surprised if I ever pop it back in.  Come to think of it, I should probably sell the thing. It is set in DC.
-Lost Planet.  A friend lent this to me and it was more fun that I thought it would be.  You can probably get it for $10, if you like shooters and wanted to give it a shot.
-FarCry 2.  Good game, but different than what I expected.  It's sort of like Grand Theft Auto set in Africa. Graphics are cool.
-NBA 09. It was developed by the same team that did NHL 09, and it's okay...but not nearly as good as NHL 09. I'm not a huge basketball fan, though. Good change-of-pace game, but I'm not building any dynasties.
-Call of Duty 4.  I liked it a lot. I know people on here loved the online play, but I got bored with it.  I actually liked the story better.

Call of Duty 4 and 5 - awesome online play and gameplay. 4 got game of the year, 5 is basically the same but in WW2. COD5 with zombie mode is a new great online game.
Assassins Creed - everything everyone else said
Halo 3 - great co-op missions. good online play, but COD series won me over more than Halo
Madden 09 - best madden of next gen era, but still lacking in franchise mode.
Fable 2---rent before you buy. not for everyone
Bioshock - also won game of the year
GTA4 - lots of games
Mercenaries 2 - blow up shtein

I spend most of my playing on COD5 and now Madden occasionally. To me they both have very high replay value. I didn't know NHL was so cool, I'll have to rent that. Also I was thinking of an NBA game if anyone can suggest one.

Mussa...if you even casually like hockey, you should try NHL 09. Great sports game.  They struck a great balance...someone could pick it up for the first time and play with what I think are pretty intuitive controls (using mostly both sticks), but it's tough enough that it takes some serious practice to master the simple controls. They have every player in the majors, the AHL, and all of the European leagues, and the Be a Pro mode where you work your way up from the third line of an AHL affiliate is great. Excellent graphics, too...better than Madden in a lot of ways.

The Orange Box is a must-play. Half Life 2 is a great game and so are the expansions, but Portal is one of the funnest games you'll ever play, and Team Fortress 2 has fun online play.

I just started on the Orange Box.  Game gives me a headache...not the euphemistic kind, but an actual ache in my head.  Not sure why.

The lack of mentioning of Gears Of War 1 and 2 in the last few posts makes me cry on the inside.


Also, this new Halo Wars game looks farging awesome.

Gears of War 1 and 2 are incredibly overrated. Both are awful online and only 2 has an excellent single player campaign.

Sure they have great graphics and gore, but I prefer more depth to my games. The weapons are lame, and there are no elements to build up your character.

The Chainsaw Lancer is awesome, as is the Torque Bow. Lame my ass.

The story line is also great.


And I love the online play.....Some of the ways players glitch is lame, but you get that with a lot of games.

They're ok. Don't see what's so special about the Torque Bow. There is nothing really unique about it, but maybe I'm just used to playing superior games.

The Lancer is cool when you chainsaw someone, but overall it is pretty much just a fancy way to melee someone, and other than that it is a basic assault rifle.
