Rainbow Six is awesome, definitely better than Gears of War
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

So I've decided that I'm not gonna buy a next gen system.  I been on XBOX for years (after my first PS2 died), and the XBOX died months ago.  I'm gonna buy a PS2 and plunder the used bin for all the best games I never played on PS2.

For $150 I'm gonna get a brand new system and a fistfull of great games.  It'll tide me over just fine.

Any PS2 suggestions welcome.

So far my "want" list includes:

QuoteShadow of the Colossus
God of War
God of War II
Gladius
Dynasty Tactics 2
Rogue Galaxy (same people as made Dark Cloud)
World Soccer Winning Eleven 9
Prince of Persia Sands of Time
Dragon Quest VIII
Okami
Final Fantasy XII

had these on XBOX, loved 'em so much, will buy 'em again for PS2
NFL 2k5
Gladius

What genres do you like? Resident Evil 4 is a must buy, get the other 2 Prince of Persias as well.

Gran Turismo 4 was awesome if you like racing games. Tell me what genres and I can recommend plenty of games.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.

Not a fan of horror games or FPSers.  GT4 is only mildly intriguing...I always hit a wall with those hard core driving games, where I've got to become some kind of goddamned driving game geek to progress, and so I drop it.

I like RPGs and strategy games...turn based or real time doesn't really matter, if the game is well made.  Otherwise, I just generally dig good games.

I'd really give RE4 a rent at least. It is one of the best action/adventure games I've ever played. They input a small RPG element into it too, but overall it is just great. A lot less horror-like than the others, but still has the horror story to it.

Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid 3, Grand Theft Auto series, Devil May Cry series, Star Ocean 3: Til the End of Time if you like RPGs it is great. Those are some. Also other RPGs you could try are the Shadow Hearts and Suikoden series.

I'll look into those.  From the used bin, you can't go wrong.  I'm sure I'll find a game or two I really dig, and it don't cost much..

Me and my girl have been trying to beat this level in GOW for almost an hr now.  Tried prob 20-30 times. Its the level where the floor drops if you don't kill everyone in time, I am guessing? Help a brotha out if you've beat it...

Dio, do you like 1st or 3rd person shooters? Black is awesome, and so is the Conflict Desert Storm 1 and 2. Mercenaries is also pretty fun, with cheats. Highly recommend any of these.
Devil May Cry series is good, similar to GOW and Prince of Persia.
Racing games, I'd have to say Grand Turismo series and also Burnout 3 is alot of fun, but not too realistic.
Grand Theft Auto is a game you can waste hours on...any version. Look up cheats though cause its tough.
Tony Hawk skateboard series is sweet and SSX 3 snowboarding is a cool game.
Madden is always in my PS2. NFL Street is fun also.

Oh and GUN, rent it or buy a used version.  :yay

Your girl plays video games?  :o

That was my initial reaction also when i found out. We've been wasting the day away on movies and TV with the zesty weather, now we've moved to PS2. This damn level of GOW is impossible...

I've played the Tony Hawk stuff on XBOX, it's alright but not gonna sink 60 hours into it.  Same for the racing games I've played so far.  Devil May Cry pops on a lot of short lists, I'll add that to mine.  I also played Mercenaries for XBOX, and though I dug it for a while, I tired of it before finishing, just like the GTA games.

Yeah, the God of War talk here is what brought me around to the idea of going for the cheap option.
