Rome

The new Superman teaser trailer just dropped.   Not a huge fan of Superman but it looked pretty good.  The cast looks interesting (Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane is a great choice) at least.

Diomedes

do they make movies that aren't based on comic books anymore?

Yes, they also make movies based on video games or Dwayne Johnson.

I'll wait for the movies based on commercials.  Surely they'll have a feature film about the homeowners becoming their parents coach?  I'd go to that.

Rome

The Dylan biopic was terrific.  Not a big fan of the mope who played him, but I gotta give credit... his performance was great.  The actor who played Joan Baez has a great voice.  Hottie too.

Edward Norton stole the show as Pete Seeger.  Pretty much a master class in subtle understatement.

i watched SATURDAY NIGHT on the plane. it was fine. they tried to create a real-time, frenetically paced anxiety filled aurora but it kind of came off as an snl skit with random cameos, impersonations and cousin greg playing 2 roles. cindy crawfords daughter played chevy chase's girl and there was no doubt. 2.5/5
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

ice grillin you

finally just saw wicked to finish off my best picture viewings...

rankings:

1. nickel boys - the way this is filmed will not be for everyone but its so original...i knew how it was gonna end half way thru but was still gutted by the last ten minutes - 7/10

2. anora - very good movie and so well made...your mileage on his actual movies may vary but sean baker is such a good filmaker...that said this shtein was like 40 minutes too long - 7/10

3. im still here - take youre depression meds before seeing this...just devastating stuff...fernanda torres steals the move to the point that she overshadows it...loved what mikey madison did in anora but torress should have easily won best actress - 6.5

4. complete unknown - basically a slightly less cheesy version of walk the line but with good music...the musical set pieces are absolutely fantastic...forever when this movie comes on cable you will auto stop and watch at least until the next musical number and your hair will stand up on your arms every time - 6.5/10

5. brutalist - i still dont think it has ended...really good first half followed by an interminable second half - 6.5/10

6. conclave - the kind of original story big budget drama they dont make nearly enough anymore - 6/10

7. dune: part two - not terrible for a stupid sci fi movie...i even watched part 1 to prepare - 5.5/10

8. wicked - exactly what youd think it is...probably 8/10 if you are a fan but just perfectly average - 4.5/10

9. the substance - pseudo intellectualism under the guise of body horror...trying waaay too hard and failing miserably...demi moore isnt even any good and thankfully they didnt reward her with a lifetime achievement best actress oscar - 3/10

10. emelia perez - horrendous as a movie even worse as a musical - 1.5/10

General_Failure

I was genuinely a fan of the book version of Wicked. I'm told the musical and movie changed the ending to be more appealing, but what can you do.
