Bombshell- All star cast. Theron knocked it out if the park as Megyn Kelly. Lithgow was great as Ailles. The movie fell short of expectations. I 100% believe every negative thing depicted about Foxnews in the movie.

Encounter - Literally nothing like I expected by title and cover photo but solid flick.

MDS

king richard - very good will smith performance but troubling for 1)people should not be telling their own stories, it delves too much into hagiography and 2)the climax of the movie is venus' first pro match and its like 30 minutes of acting like this is the biggest thing in the world...pretty sure she wouldve been a legend with or without a competitive first match. overall its fine. 2.5/5

promising young woman - another marginassi special. revenge fantasy where a woman seeks out to destroy all men because her friend was raped and everyone who did it got away. original, clever and a monster carrie mulligan showcase. 4/5

minari - pretty boring! nothing really happens. a korean family moves to arkansas to start a farm, and then they just try to get their farm off the ground. the grandmother who won the oscar had like 10 minutes of screen time and didnt do anything. i dont get why she won other than it was a weak weak year and liberals thought giving trophies to people of color wouldve absolve them of their racism. i dont know. 2/5
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

New Spider-Man trailer

https://youtu.be/ZYzbalQ6Lg8

I'm torn on this.  Spiderman is my favorite MCU series and Dr. Strange is my least favorite.  At least we get Zendaya back.

Best Spider-Man movie of all time. Strange is really just a nexus for events that happen in the movie with the multi verse. He's not in it for a large part. Zendaya hotness scale somehow raises next level. Maybe top 5 marvel film...that good. It's much darker and funnier than the previous films. Lots of welcome fan service. They nailed this one.

nice, going to see it this week.

power of the dog - hated it for a while but it slowly grows on you, and then at the end I was like maybe I kinda liked it.  regardless the payoff doesn't really justify the effort it takes to get there.

seems like the type of film that will win awards so movie nerds can band together and pretend they have good taste that the common folk don't understand.

SD

Matrix Resurrection- corny with bad acting.  Decent reboot. Don't take it serious and it's a fun film

MDS

the french dispatch - wes anderson watched the ballard of buster scruggs and said i need to do that....which is a mistake because his films are super quirky and weird and take time to suck you into these dumbass white hipster worlds. having 3 different 30 minute shorts means you start the process all over again each time. it didnt work. at all. 1/5

being the ricardos - javier bardem came close to rickie ricardo but my goodness nicole kidman. she just did nicole kidman. and she has no comedic chops at all. lucille ball was one of the funniest people ever, she could just be funny doing nothing. nicole kidman is perhaps the least funny person on the planet. shes also too tall and looked nothing like her. the movie also sets up all this tension around her being outed as a communist. like...we know her career didnt end in 1951. fake tension. the script isnt terrible because sorkin can write dialogue like no one else but otherwise noooooooooo 1.5/5

Rome

Don't Look Up wasn't half bad as Hollywood satire goes.  Loved the ending so much.  The rest was meh to standard hyperbolic preachiness from (mostly) rich white actors.

Cate Blanchett was awesome, though.

I'll give it a C+.

ice grillin you

licorice pizza - really fun often times hilarious but overly long movie....the two leads were amazing for basically first time movie actors

7/10
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Thought it was hilarious and the jabs at right wingers were on point. Perfect film for our current times with Trump, the pandemic, big tech etc.

I enjoyed this.  Not quite as funny as I expected for an Adam McKay movie but really well done.  I wonder how many Trumpers even realized that the don't look uppers are them.

The new Venom was pretty blah.  I liked the fist one, wasn't great either, kinda mindless but entertaining and cool visuals.  This is similar but much cornier, almost like a buddy cop movie between venom and tom hardy.  I think he and Michelle Williams need to stop doing these before they tarnish their legacies.

Rome

Exactly zero Trumpers have watched that movie.

I love subversive entertainment but it was just so blatantly over the top and mean it just turned me off as the movie wore on.

I'll spoiler tag this just in case but:
When they spot the comet at the rally zero chance any of them would have turned on Trump. They'd still call it a liberal hoax and go down with the ship.
Tom Hardy can not be stopped from making garbage movies.

The man. The myth. The legend.
