i actually agree with rjs that the way they turned things on their head with expectations was welcome...i don't care about snoke - he's not an interesting character to me; i don't care about rey's parents, etc.  I'm glad they ditched that shtein quickly.  I just wish there was a little more info in the movies about wtf happened to get the galaxy to the place it was in when EpVII opens considering where EPVI left things.

Why 'The Last Jedi' Is The Worst Star Wars Movie Ever

TLJ isn't even in the same universe as either TPM or ATOC.   Just watch 5 minutes and TPM seems like a parody in comparison.

While you nerds have been busy trying to decide if this Star Wars is the worst movie ever, I finally got to watch John Wick Chapter 2. An unarguably good movie. Not as good as the first, but few movies are. Suffers from your usual middle chapter problems, but should lead to a very good third movie.

The man. The myth. The legend.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Linking to a Star Wars article on the federalist web site claiming that it's the worst sw movie ever tells you everything you need to know about who it is that hates TLJ. Yes it was unnecessarily preachy. If you're in a place where you're too fragile to be preached at then you're going to get your hackles up. If you can bear the strain of an overt social message (one that lasts all of a few minutes) the movie is very good and reminds me more and more of the excellent Star Wars tv shows the more I think about it.

Also, getting upset because you don't understand how an interstellar political party managed to rise to prominence between space opera movies is some next level digging for shtein to be upset about.

And finally, John Wick 2 was fun af. Watched it twice on my last international flight.

That's one of a thousand complaints. I know you're a SW fan and a cynic, I'm surprised you'd fall for a big budget mess with an awful story, dialogue and plot holes. I could gloss over the plot holes (the OT had many), dumb humor, and the rest of the shtein if it was a good movie. That's the bottom line for me. It wasn't a good movie. The rest of the complaints are just further reasons to pick it apart.

The world at large and our country in particular has been commandeered by iceholes. Which has forced me to engage in ways that I would rather not. It takes up an inordinate amount of my brain space but I consider it to be important.

Star Wars is not important. I am a Star Wars fan but what I need from a farging Star Wars film is to be entertained. That's it. The prequels were not entertaining. They were aggressively, insultingly bad in just about every way. This movie had flaws, but it was a decent Star Wars flick that kept me entertained and that I  enjoyed even more upon second viewing. Picking apart every little thing in a movie that involves space politics and laser swords is not something I have the inclination to do anymore. It doesn't farging matter. And the things that I would choose to pick apart were not egregious enough to ruin my enjoyment of the film.

IT - Outstanding. Any movie where the cast is mostly children should be approached with extreme caution but the kids in this were excellent. The girl especially was great. Stayed true to the book for the most part and where it strayed it did so with purpose.

Blade Runner 2049 - I loved the original and this was a fantastic continuation of that story. If you didn't like or were indifferent about the original you probably won't be that geeked about the story but it was beautifully shot and if nothing else offered up an amazing visual experience.

Wonder Woman - Good but not great. It got so much hype that I was expecting to be blown away. It was very obviously better than the other DC dreck that's been trotted out over the past few years but still wasn't as good or as much fun as the Marvel movies. Gal Gadot, though. Yes.

I haven't seen most of the best picture contenders (Shape of Water, Lady Bird etc) but of the movies I saw in 2017, Blade Runner was easily my favorite.

darkest hour - takes a while to get rollin so the first half is a little slow but once it kicks into high gear its fantastic....especially one particular chill inducing scene on a train late in the movie......also a beautiful cinematic job of portraying pre war london...and of course oldman who is just phenomenal...just get it out of the way and send him the best actor trophy right now

Bright. If I knew it was a Max Landis thing to start with, I would have lowered my expectations, but I love the Shadowrun universe, and this is the closest we're ever going to get to a movie for that.

It wasn't great, of course. It was as ham fisted as you'd expect and focused on the wrong things. The story was all over the place and tried doing too many things at once, all of them poorly. Maybe the next one will sort that out without Landis jerking off all over it. The Ork makeup was kinda terrible, too.

Will Smith is becoming a must skip for me, which is a shame.
