this more made me lol than anything else but the blind dood can take out a 100 storm troopers by himself in that city early in the movie then walk thru a billion storm troopers shooting at him at the end but the farging force cant lead his hand to the switch for the communications johnson....it was so ludicrous when he was looking like he was reading braille searching for the lever

This was my biggest pet peeve as well. For a regular Jedi to take down that many stormtroopers with a lightsaber is a feat, for a blind non-Jedi force sensitive guy with a medal rod to do it is absurd. Plus, wouldn't the stormtroopers armor keep them from getting knocked out? Unless their armor is made out of paper machete. The walk of death and his chant was lame.

Other problems I had with the film were

-the Death Star making the jump to light speed. Since when did that shtein happen.

-The rebel blockade runner pushing a disabled star destroyer into another star destroyer

Couple other minor things I won't mention. I watched it again on a hack site. It's even better the second time around. The beginning doesn't drag as much either. I didn't catch how many times Gaylen calls Jyn "Star Dust" till my second viewing. I honestly thought it was some cop out they threw in there so she'd know which plans to grab. But every scene he calls her Star dust.

also a nerd question...how long you figure it is from the end of this movie until the end of the first movie....is it like a month or two or a couple years?

Pretty sure it was very soon after.  She had the plans on the shuttle then sent them to Obi-Wan via R2D2.  Maybe a couple of months?

i thought the first hour was fantastic....at that point i had it maybe the best stars wars movie of all and thought it was way better than the last hour....but im not really a sci fi fight scene guy...lasers dont do shtein for me

and yeah agree on that ship crash shtein to bust out the shield

also and this stood out to me at most and i forgot to mention it in my original post....both the second in charge imperial dood and the guy who designed the death star knew about the plans being compromised before that final battle...and even at the start of the battle the dood mentions they are going for them and then theres a breach in the data room....so why not at some point did someone just not order an imperial spacecraft to shoot the satelite dish

Hubris and incompetence?   Or maybe the light side of the force had something to do with it?

I'd say almost immediately after...hours, days, a week tops. The ship she is on is the same ship that is captured in the beginning of episode IV.

ice grillin you

so the first star wars basically happened in real time?

I always thought it did, which is why its weird that luke learned the force in just days, but it took everyone else years to.

If guns kill people then spoons made Rosie O'Donnel a fatass.

He really didn't master it for years, though.  He just used it as a beginner.

Luke had the benefit of far less crowded classrooms at the Jedi Academy which allowed for more 1 on 1 student/teacher interaction, thus, accelerated the learning process.

As far as the original trilogy timeline goes, I always figured it was something along the lines of Ep IV  (roughly 2-3 year break), Ep V (another 2ish year break), Ep VI.

Basically the trilogy takes place over a 5-6 year time frame. I think. At least that's what I've always imagined it to be.

This is also true. He may have mastered the art of moving small objects and fetching his lightsaber when he couldn't reach it,  but he wasn't a master yet.  Fast forward to TFA when 20 years have passed and I'd say he's probably a Jedi Master now.

smeags

yeah, mastered is a different thing.

the issue wasn't really in new hope, it was in the 2nd trilogy where lucas made it seem like it took years of being a padawan before you could really do anything let alone master it.

either way, im done with this nerd debate.

La La Land was outstanding.   Chazelle's two movies were my favorites both years now (this and Whiplash).  Haven't seems Manchester by the Sea yet though.

Just got done watching The Revenant.  Slow moving but beautifully shot movie.  I'd have probably not enjoyed watching this in the theater because it's so long, but stretched out on my couch wasn't bad.  Biggest problem with this movie is that I was able to completely tune out for a few minutes at a time here and there to check email or play some goofy mobile game on my phone and never felt lost with the story or anything. Acting was excellent and the overall production was top notch, but it felt like it was an hour longer than it needed to be.

Eagles_Legendz

Big screen for Revenant adds a layer to how wonderfully shot it is.  Also thought Hardy was very good.
