They didn't even officially guarantee a 3rd season yet.

WEST is GOD

The thing is, the writing team has no control over how long the show lasts. They can say to ABC: OK to finish the story it will take 3 seasons. Then ABC is going to say. Well if it's successful then we will continue it as long as it takes. ABC owns it's rights.

Anyway it will go 5 seasons max. I'm guessing 3 or 4. 8... no chance in hell.
THIS SEASON IS OVER AND ANDY'S WORLD IS GRIDL

Offseason needs: 2 DEs, 1 DT, 1 OL, 2 LBs, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 KR.

im just saying the writers have already said they have 8 seasons worth of material.  As long as the show is a cash cow, ABC has no reason to stop it anytime soon.

WEST is GOD

If it takes more than 3 seasons to reveal the mystery of the island people will stop caring. No one is going to wait until 2011 to find out what's up to the island. I know you didn't say they would definitely have 8 seasons, but if they plan to, then they better reveal the secret by season 3's end and go from there.

reveal one secret, provide another.   seems like a winning strategy.

WEST is GOD

The thing is all mysteries lead back to the one mystery, which is why are they all there and what is up with the island? They can only drag it out for so long. There is about 25 episodes per season. If they reveal one secret per season then you will have 20 episodes of nothing.

hey, the writers have kept you guys freakin out every week so far, im sure if they think they have 8 seasons worth of material they have some serious tricks up their sleeves.

Ah no. Lindelof and/maybe Abrams are in charge. He is contractually obligated to do x amount of season/episodes. Whatever they sign. Right now they are set for a full 23 episode order. After that, nothing is in stone. The show is quite popular, so I don't see why ABC wouldn't bring it back. When a show reaches the height of popularity that Lost is at, the producers hold the balls. They can decide that season 7 is it. They're done.

Examples:
Seinfeld and Raymond. Their respective networks wanted the shows back, were offering big time cash. The creators said nope, were done. They were not contratcually obligated to another season, so they said no.

You're ratings suck and you get cancelled. Until you reach hit status, the network holds the balls cause they can cancel you at anytime. Look at David Chase with The Sopranos. He can do whatever he wants cause his show the most popular and profitable show in HBO's history. Two years between seasons sure doesn't sound like something the network would want.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

WEST is GOD

I don't think it's like that with every series. I think networks can bring it back if they want. Not exactly sure of all the technicalities.

dont worry, if there is one thing MDS actually knows, its his television. ha.

MDS

Not really. Who will watch Lost with completley different actors, writers and producers? Yea....I know too much about this stuff.

i will only watch it next year if they open that hatch and  find Ed O'Neill bonging a 40oz of Steel Reserve.

holla

WEST is GOD

I won't stick around Lost too long if they just drag it out and unnecesessarily delay the mystery.

Theyll continue to reveal questions, which will just lead to new ones. This will go on until Lindelof wants to do something new. I figure they have an end point, and if the show continues to be real popular, by season 5 or 6 theyll all have more than enough money so abc tempting them with more will not endice the producers. at the same time, they could be like er and just sorta hang on to what once was a great show by having no original castmembers remain.

and murps right, bundy needs to be on. i was watching some frontline piece in a media class and they showed a few clips from bundy, twas an awsome moment. better than the clip they showed of carl winslow in a hospital gown.
