They could have used that ending for any tv show.

The island events were a means to tell the story. The journey of the survivors and why they were there was answered in my opinion. Jacob got them all there to kill the smoke monster and to prevent him from leaving. He did it for two reasons: To make up for his mistake of creating him, and to free his brothers soul.

so half the season was us seeing the characters when they died? and the whole point was for them to realize that they were dead and move on to heaven or something? so the after life you are basically the same person you were in the real world, except for some changes to certain people?

and the most important part of all their lives was for everyone except for sawyer, desmond, kate, crazy claire, lapidus, miles and a 200 year old man from the canary islands to die for some hellhole island that is now run by a fat dood and ben linus? seriously what is richard going to do in LA 2007? how is he going to adapt? what the farg. and what the hell are the numbers.
