QuoteJames has scored at an astronomical rate (36.6 points per game, albeit on 40 percent shooting) in these Finals. But with Iguodala as his primary defender, James is shooting just 35.2 percent from the field, according to ESPN Stats & Information data. That's worse than James shot when guarded by Jimmy Butler, an NBA All-Defense second-team selection this season, in the 2015 Eastern Conference semifinals (39.3 percent) and against Kawhi Leonard, this season's defensive player of the year, in the 2014 Finals (57.6 percent).

James is also shooting just 29 percent on shots contested by Iguodala. When contested by anyone else, James is shooting 43 percent.

In Game 1, James scored 44 points, but the Cavaliers lost.

"It's funny to say, when a guy gets 44 points, that a defender did a really good job," Kerr said, "but I thought Andre did extremely well."

Iguodala guarded James on 19 plays, holding him to 4-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-7 in the clinching overtime. Though James scored a ton of points, it took him a whopping 38 shots to get there.

Iguodala said that was the plan all along, and he credited Aaron McKie, his former 76ers teammate who was tasked with guarding Kobe Bryant in the 2001 Finals.

"At the end of the day, everybody is going to look at [James'] numbers and say, 'God, he had a monster game,' but for all the analytical geeks, you'll say, he took 34 shots to get 40," McKie said. "That's what we've been saying for years. That's what you want."

Iguodala also has the highest plus-minus (9.6) of any player in this year's Finals.

"He's one of the X factors," James said earlier in this series, "and he came to play."

Pretty much...I love all the whining how he was unappreciated. He was miscast. For years anyone who's known shtein about basketball said he'd be a perfect 3 option on a team. Well guess what, he's a perfect fit as a 3 on Golden State. Go figure.

I just wish people would listen to this stuff when I told them ten years ago...it shouldn't have to be in SI for it to be true and would have saved me years of grief trying to defend the guy from basically an entire city including this board...two biggest haters who know basketball were sunny and the cuz

Everyone knew it, Igoudala didn't. He thought he was a legit superstar. That's what rubbed people the wrong way.

ice grillin you

very few knew it....99% of the city absolutely buried him on a regular basis saying so many falsehoods having no idea what they were talking about....i don't remember what you said cause you aren't really huge nba guy but if you thought he was very good player overall and an elite first team all defense guy then you were in the tiny minority....and the worst part was that it went on for years...it was beyond annoying

I 100% criticized him but always said he would be a perfect 3rd option. I also praised his D. I had a lengthy argument with someone on here who said his d wasn't very good. He's one of the best defenders in the league. "The people who know my game" comment he made was in reference to his d but people took it the wrong way because he came off Amarolike

youre like one of those stepford flyers fan girls who was happy when kimo won the cup
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
