QuoteSeahawks | Burleson signs offer sheet
Fri, 24 Mar 2006 14:15:34 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks have signed restricted free agent WR Nate Burleson (Vikngs) to an offer sheet. The Minnesota Vikings have seven days to match the offer. If they do not, the Vikings would receive Seattle's third-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Methinks the Vikings will take that pick and like it.

Center Mike Flanagan and running back Tony Fisher, a pair of smart, savvy veteran players, signed with new teams Thursday after being given short shrift in free agency by the Green Bay Packers.

Flanagan received a three-year contract worth $9 million from the Houston Texans, where he will be reunited with assistant head coach and offensive line coach Mike Sherman. He will get a $3 million signing bonus.

Fisher accepted a one-year deal for not much more than minimum salary from the St. Louis Rams. His deal contained a modest signing bonus.

Funny little blurb from Schefter:

QuoteJust as Hutchinson's deal had poison pills, so does Burleson's. Like this: If Burleson plays more than five games in the state of Minnesota, the contract's full value would have to be guaranteed.

Ha!

Packers | Davenport agrees to terms
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:44:26 -0800

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms on a new contract with free agent RB Najeh Davenport (Packers). Davenport will sign a one-year contract, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Saturday afternoon, March 25. "Najeh will be in Green Bay Sunday night (March 26) and he'll sign the contract Monday (March 27)," Rosenhaus said. "We had several teams that were interested in him, but he really enjoys playing for the Packers and he wanted it to stay that way. He's very happy to get it squared away. It's good news."

STEELERS RE-SIGN HAYNES

There's no surer proof that free agency has slowed down than when the signing of a third-down back who's otherwise No. 3 on the depth chart is the lead item on this, or any, site.

A league source tells us that the Steelers have re-signed running back Verron Haynes to a two-year deal.

Per the source, Haynes receives a signing bonus of $325,000 on a contract with a total value of $1.6 million.

Haynes was a fifth-round draft pick of the Steelers in 2002.  He played in 14 games in 2005, rushing for 274 yards on 74 carries and catching 11 passes for 113 yards.  He ran for three touchdowns.
