Quote from: MDS on June 30, 2024, 09:21:10 PMlike florida is lasting a decade

Decent chance that by then I won't be here.  Both kids claim they are not staying in Florida after college, and my wife will be moving near grandchildren if needed.  Plus, the "Free State of Florida" (posted on our state line welcome sign on I-75, by the way) is going way too batshtein crazy to keep living here much longer.

Quote from: Geowhizzer on June 30, 2024, 06:58:34 PMPonied up the money (with some surprising help from the Florida government) to install hurricane shutters all around my house.  Also finally bought a generator and installed the connector needed.

All but guaranteed that there won't be a hurricane here in the next decade.

I'm shocked DeSantis allows assistance to people for such things! But glad you got them. And the generator is a game changer - her mom put hers in right after we had that winter freeze here a few years ago that killed the grid.

She lives ten mins from us so we just go there when shtein kicks off now

looks like the beryl path is gonna hit the yucatan...but then who knows if it makes a turn

fun fact beryl is my hebrew name

Beryl is coming to visit today. Should be an active 24-48hrs.

The storm has been a fascinating one to watch from its beginning. The intense and fast ramp up to a 5. And then to see if shrug off wind shear and dry air after crossing the Yucatán - the hurricane version of the South Park "I ain't hear no bell yet" meme.

I'll be finishing up last minute prep this morning and afternoon and then likely head to my girls moms place since she has the Generac.

Should be hitting us in the early morning hours of Monday so I'd rather ride it out there. Because of the zesty Texas power grid we lose power when a bird shteins on a wire so I fully expect to lose it. So it'll be nice to be at her place.

gonna hit that dirty ass water down in galveston

lol yep

We just had an outer band storm and it was a good one.

PhillyPhreak54

Cat 1 that just wouldn't weaken. Beryl was a bitch.

80-90mph winds and about a foot of rain

It kicked off about 3am and really ramped up around 6am. Stayed heavy for four hours and still getting 50mph winds now.

Thank god for generators. I've been watching the local news all night and day and the entertainment has been watching idiots drive through flooded areas.

Rome

shtein was nasty in the Caribbean.  Glad you're ok, homey.

Don Ho

Was thinking of you J. Glad you are safe. Hope you have your electricity.  We had a power outage for about 8 hours last month and I contemplated killing myself. My wife was a hardcore camper on Kauai as a kid, she called me a Hoyda.

Thanks fellas

We have it at home thankfully. But at the job tomorrow will be day 5. And the greedy corksucker energy company whose services die when a bird shteins on a power line said today that 500k could still be without into next week.

We are still open. But have to hand write tickets. I sweated through every piece of clothing I had on today by 10am.

I've been closing around noon to keep the warehouse guys out of the midday heat.

so in texas:
1. there is some rain
2. the power grid fails
3. businesses remain open in sweltering heat
4. people live here

Yep.

Also Centerpoint Energy is getting rightfully roasted. The whole deregulated market here farged things up. Having for profit utilities is farging stupid.

Also, because Houston Texas, the linesman are having guns pulled on them and threatened by people. So much that the county sheriff has to tell people to quit being shteinbags.

This is a whole scandal. As if the prolonged outages and threats to workers aren't  enough...

Our fargface governor is wheeling his ass a round in Korea with a Centerpoint executive.

Because he's over there, and like Ted Cruz, is elsewhere during a disaster, him and his bum Lt Gov didn't reach out to the White House for disaster relief.

Biden had to call the county officials and ask them where the Lt Gov was bc he was unreachable.

Just an epic failure.

And they'll be re-elected.

The man. The myth. The legend.
