Don't know what the Eagles gave the Saints yet...
Eagles get the player and a 2025 7th rounder
Saints get Eagles' 5th round in '23 draft, and the worse of Eagles' 2 6th round picks in '24 draft.

Still only 24 and he's a good player and they were desperate at safety. Saints fans loved him, were pissed he was traded and thought they were getting an early round pick for him.

how good of a player can he be if he was traded for essentially nothing?
hes better than what they had, thats for sure

If you're really (really) bored read that Saints thread. Around page 8 or 9 when they see how little they got it's full on meltdown mode. The way they're flipping out is telling.
Looks like he's the new starting FS, so we'll find out pretty quickly.

their fans loving him is a fine but the rest of the league evidently didnt think much of him if he was traded for a few day 3 picks. i know hes in the last year of his deal and plays a position that is being devalued, but still
regardless they got a starting caliber safety who shtein talks a ton for a bag of dildos...IN
next question then: does he get a new contract immediately? or they let him play half a season or so at FS before that?
I don't know if you heathens have ever seen the Peter Sellers' film, "Being There" but his character's name was Chauncey Gardner.
Seriously one of the best satirical movies ever made.
That's it. That's all I got here.

Supposedly had some conflicts with the coaching staff so maybe he's a bit of a problem child but the way they're crying it's like he was a future hofer. I might eat these words but I think there's enough strong personalities on D and the locker room in general to keep him in line if the reports are accurate. He also wants a new deal...I'm not sure the birds cap situation but I'm assuming Howie has a plan or maybe the promise from moving from slot cb to full time safety was intriguing enough to convince him to play on his rookie deal.

I seen it.
Was hearing some national reporter buzz the last few days assuming the Eagles were going to make a trade for a safety. Didn't seem to be on the radar of the local beat guys, although obviously the position was a known weakness.
Expiring contract, deeply devalued position. That's all I got to explain how cheap he was.
He was supposedly a toxic malcontent, disrespectful to coaches, etc. Whole org knew he wasn't gonna be there after this year, so it was cut bait time.
Judging from some footage of him talking to the press, I'll say dude is an icehole to most people he meets.

Great movie! "I like to watch" is all time.
I stopped my analysis on newbies after I touted Davion Taylor to ya'll.
I think I did the same with Timmy Chang anf Nate Ilaoa.
One day Thomas Tapeh will have his triumphant comeback and I won't have to eat my words.

almost every nfl fanbase massively overrates their own players
I was just reading about this guy and apparently he's the biggest shtein talker in the nfl. Probably why the saint fans love him
the football wonks talked him up but i cant get past how little he was traded for...he also wore out his welcome in NO i guess just by being a pain in the locker room
regardless of anything even if its 1 year rental hes a massive upgrade on harris
I mean he's clearly not any good but the safeties were always going to suck so who cares

From what I read they'd get more comp for him letting him walk as an f/a after next season so probably the locker room issues reported were accurate. He can't be worse than Anthony Harris or K'von where da farg is Wallace

Apparently lacerated his kidney on Sunday night. Ouch. Out indefinitely.
Unpopular opinion: The INT numbers have popped but he's been pedestrian outside of the picks. The depth at the position is a major concern but I think he will be missed less than Maddox.
Perhaps Malcolm can come back and give it one more shot...
Any takers?

I think the case for bringing him back hinges on him being relatively cheap compared to their other UFAs. Making him a $15M franchise tag guy makes no sense. If they have that kind of cash allotted for their secondary I'd expect them to use it on caking off Bradberry.
I do think they bring CJGJ back and not Bradberry, but not on the tag.
Could use the tag as a place holder to get the full deal done tho
QuoteEagles News: CJGJ says Jonathan Gannon did not put players in position to make plays in the Super Bowl

Dear Marcus Hayes.........................
It wasn't Gannon that couldn't line up right after motion and gave up a billion touchdowns every single time, but yes.
https://twitter.com/JClarkNBCS/status/1634936725826048000 20
Yes plz
Slay's gone this should happen now
https://twitter.com/JClarkNBCS/status/1636021789947056132 20
Yeah, don't want to lose 3/4 of the secondary. If it doesn't work though there's still a deep list of available safeties who wouldn't be much of a drop off at all.
That he's still unsigned is encouraging but agreed I'd almost rather spread the money around signing a decent safety (plenty out there) then using the remaining money on a rotation DT or half decent LB (plenty of them too).
I wouldn't be surprised if there are some teams that have have a concern if CJ would be a good fit with their locker room/coaches. There might be some truth there, but last year an infusion of his feistiness was exactly what the Eagles D needed. If he scares any team away all the better to help re-sign him.
https://twitter.com/PHLEaglesNation/status/1636509763881037825 20
The guy is bonkers, no doubt.
Every DB is a weirdo one way or another.
I'd like to see CJ back, more than Slay, but there do seem to be a number of promising DB tweener/versatile types like him that should go in the first couple of rounds of the draft. On the other hand Howie spent a couple of picks to get him, so he's probably loathe to let CJ go.
cj is really in his feelings...the eagles said no to a franchise which is at $14. bates gets $16. he wants that area but isnt getting it so he feels mega disrespected.
the question will be does he take a 1 year deal at $12 or something in hopes of getting the bates-level contract next offseason or accept the $9-11 range and move on. we shall see.
the feelings in this thread are something special
Well that farging blows and the Lions are putting together a nice squad for next season. We couldn't match that offer?

He got a 1 year deal. They don't like him they cut bait. I'd rather have him at $10 million over cox
part of it seems that after he rejected their initial multi-year offer, the eagles moved on and signed JB and re upped slay. after that, they were tapped out on DBs cap allocation wise.
though if they really wanted him, hed be back

Haven't seen anything official...there are a bunch of half decent safeties still available (Johnson, Amos, Rapp). Howie added cjgj and bradberry late last season so I'm confident they'll bring someone in.
Fourth best player in the Eagles secondary last year. Fine player, but overrated because he lucked into an interception total he will never match again, and because fans liked his icehole energy. Would be better to have him back than not, but this is not a big deal. Eagles value safety and linebacker somewhere below long snapper.
The Eagles offer was supposedly $12M per year on a multiyear johnson. That's the right number imho. High stakes gamble on himself to accept a one year prove-it deal for substantially less. Who knows, maybe it'll pay off for him, but it seems dumb.
Judging by the agents talking shtein on twitter last night - sounds like they know they farged up too
How will they ever get a safety with two first round picks in a few weeks?!?
the agents are claiming the $$ was mainly in year 3 and couldve been voided...bla bla bla probably multiple things going on here.
they def overvalued cj but the eagles werent dying to have him back. they were cool with a lower risk, less guaranteed $$ type of deal they could get out of if cj didnt get any better this year. he rejected the deal, they pivoted to JB and slay and didnt have any cap allocation left for a safety.
i feel like cj is a fine player but the turnover productivity is unreplicateable and he seems like a lot to deal with. good luck in detroit young brotha.
He's a safety. He's a good player but you can't pay everyone. I'm way happier they resigned Bradberry. And agents are gonna leak that stupid shtein every time they fail to secure a deal for their clients. It's never their fault.

Not sure they've ever taken a safety in the first round and I doubt they are going to start now. Also I doubt there's a safety in this entire draft you can plug in and assume decent starter level production in year 1. But it'll be fine, they'll add someone, and they probably don't think it's a disaster even if Blankenship is back there. Mid level of the defense is going to be their weakness again next year and that's where they have chosen to be weak.
Guess who's back. Nice to have some attitude back on the D

This is an entertainment W. Whether it translates to football Ws is to be determined.
Funny if someone steals his car again.
I think it's funny they offered him $12M a year last year and he ended up settling for $10M guaranteed this year. Not exactly a brain surgeon. Anyway, welcome back, I guess. Make sure you click the lock button on your farging shteinbox this time, dipshtein.
Quote from: MDS on March 12, 2024, 10:19:19 PMhe cant stay on the field, plays an irrelevant position and is coming off a major injury. dont expect the world.
while it is always season ending i dont count a torn pectoral as a major injury that will affect someone's play the following year...its not like a farged up knee shoulder or achillies might be...as for position he can help in the slot and no matter how significant you think safety is just the fact that the improvement is so massive over what they had last year and what they would have had this year without him makes me pretty excited...he also had 6 int's in like 15 minutes with the eagles two years ago so the possibility of the world is there at least
more important than any of that is he's a trash talking icehole which they desperately need.

Traded to the Texans for OG Kenyon Green and a pick swap our 6th for their 5th in 2026. Why gut our secondary. Sydney Brown blows. I know he has the tools but he's way too undisciplined and plays reckless
I farging hate this
https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/cj-gardner-johnson-kenyon-green-trade-free-agency-texans/653665/
QuoteA big part of this trade is giving former third-round pick Sydney Brown a chance to compete for a starting spot next to Reed Blankenship in the Eagles' defense. Brown was a third-round pick out of Illinois in 2023 but hasn't yet carved out a significant role on defense. He showed some promise as a rookie but tore his ACL in the regular season finale and missed the start of 2024 before bing buried on the depth chart.
In addition to Brown, the Eagles also still have Tristin McCollum and Lewis Cine on the roster. There are also several months before the opener, so it's possible the Eagles could add another safety.
And Blankenship, 26, is entering the final year of his contract. So an extension could be coming for the now-veteran starter.
Green, 23, was the No. 15 overall pick out of Texas A&M back in the 2022 draft but his NFL career hasn't gone to plan. After starting 14 games as a rookie, with plenty of struggles, Green missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury.
In 2024, Green was benched in October. He ended up playing in 12 games with 9 starts. Last season, ProFootballFocus ranked him as the No. 76 best guard in the NFL out of 77 qualified players. Green gave up 47 pressures and 4 sacks last season. He appears to be another reclamation for highly regarded offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.
Green has played only left guard in the NFL and the Eagles have Pro Bowler Landon Dickerson at that spot. So perhaps we see him get some time at right guard, where there's an opening. The Eagles' 2024 starter, Mekhi Becton, is a free agent. The Eagles also have 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen on the roster.
This one pisses me off
Sydney Brown? Injured and hasn't shown anything special.
Strange all around.
They're sick of his shtein. Pretty simple.
I don't like it, incidentally. But the reasoning is clear.
i was surprised by it, but i shouldnt be
hes a massive pain in the ass and it seems like a the players werent too find of him either. he did what he had to do - came in here, established an edge, burned some bridges and is off with j to houston where all rejects go
His six interceptions will be missed more than he will be.
He says he knew it was coming and no bad blood. He asked to be traded to a team that can win.
I can still be a CJ stan here
The more that comes out this was a cap move in preparation for extending players. Jurgens probably gets done soon. Carter is gonna break the bank next season. Howie tryin to keep the core players intact and trying to fill the rest of the roster out with young bucks. At some point I'll bet he goes dumpster diving for some depth pieces.
that myles garrett extension as carter's agent going like....yes
