Title: New Orleans 2012
Post by: hbionic on April 17, 2012, 08:23:29 PM
Ok...I would prefer to sit with most of you fuglies...maybe we can coordinate ticket purchases when they avail themselves so we can have the CF group represent. And we can kiss during halftime.

Ok, I've been saving and I already told me girl I'm going...so...if the Earth God says its ok, I'm in.

Et tu?

i see a bunch of tickets on stubhub as high as 22 seats together but the cheapest i see in a group are like 175 + fees

the cheapest tickets of any kind are 116.00

six seats together for 138.00

They're on sale already?

Ok...well...we should be doing this rather quickly.

just checked a couple other random ticket brokers and seen some for as low as 101.00

im absolutely shocked at how many groups of tickets that are avaiable...there re no less than 10 different sets of 20 or more seats togetehr available on stubhub

So, I think we should get a head count and put it together rather soon.

I can get a confirmation on a couple of heads that were interested in going with me...I'll check with Sarge as well. I don't go anywhere without my honey.

i was thinking about this possibility the other day but forgot to check which weekend it was. pretty awesome timing.

i have a feeling getting tix to that will be ten times harder than the eagles game.

The date makes this one a challenge since I'll be at my new duty station for less than 3 weeks. Who knows what my living situation and finances will be at that time. Could be closing on a house or may have just given up 1st and last months rent.

I can buy your game tickets and contribute towards airfare if you need it. This is not once in a lifetime...but...it doesn't come around often. I'd like to share that moment with you babe. And your squaw if she's allowed to go.

Holy shtein that looks like a fleabag.  Why didn't you book a nicer place on Priceline?
Title: Re: New Orleans 2012
Post by: ice grillin you on April 18, 2012, 09:20:37 PM
that hotel is fine....priceline isnt getting you a better place for that price plus you cant cancel reservations on priceline and this being so far out i didnt wanna lock in....im going for a week so i have much more money invested in this...

i suggest to everyone if you are even thinking about going to this game to at the very least reserve your hotel room now wherever you choose to stay....you can always cancel later (as long as you dont do priceline or a no refund deal on some place like expedia)...the rooms are already overpriced because of the lsu bama game and as the date gets closer rooms are going to be impossible to get...it might as well me mardi gras that weekend
Title: Re: New Orleans 2012
Post by: Rome on April 18, 2012, 09:28:23 PM
Oh, I see.  You're locking in a room without paying for it.  Got it.

I was wondering why there was a weekly rate attached to that link.

Whatever.  I'm arriving Saturday and leaving Tuesday and since I'll be splitting the room with someone I don't give a shtein what it costs.  If it's 200 a night that's a 100 to me.  No big whoop.

IGY, I've never been...so...is the general plan to stay around or in the French Quarter the whole time? I'll start looking at hotels like you recommended.
Title: Re: New Orleans 2012
Post by: ice grillin you on April 18, 2012, 10:07:16 PM
you dont have to be in the french quarter proper....i actually like frenchman street better than bourbon....its like bourbon street without all the doucheyness...central buiness dist. (where my hotel is) is a little cheaper than the french quarter but still walkable

lower garden dist. the marigny and even uptown are all ok but gonna be cabs for the most part to the french quarter...its really up to you...i mean how important is being able to walk to the french quarter versus having to take a cab?....if you can save 50 bucks a night on the hotel maybe its worth having to take a few cabs while you are there??

also i didnt look into really cheap hotels as my girl wont stay at them....if you dont care about zesty hotels then maybe you can find something cheap actually in the french quarter

but id read thru the reviews...just glancing they seem good but you have to do your due diligence in NO because a lot of seemingly nice hotels have bed bugs and blood on the sheets...crap like that....so definitey check out the reviews on trip advisor and yelp

yeah you need a card but they don't charge anything, just need it in case you bail or don't cancel in time.

have you knucklecocks never got hotel rooms before?

i actually think i stayed at this place for jazz jest like two years but am not positive. was just looking for no name boutique hotels in that area and went with it.

So I just looked on the Saints site and it appears they don't sell individual games or group sales because "*The New Orleans Saints have been sold out on a season-ticket basis since the beginning of the 2006 season. As such, group ticket packages are no longer available for purchase. The best place to purchase tickets is NFL Ticket Exchange at NFL.com powered by Ticketmaster. NFL Ticket Exchange at NFL.com powered by Ticketmaster is a service for current season ticket holders that enables them to re-sell their tickets to games they cannot attend."

So how we gonna do this?

A couple things...

I have a friend who works for the Saints..not sure if he could help, but I'll shoot him an email to see if he can get us a group block.

Also, as awesome as seeing LSU/Bama live would be, it's 90 miles north of NO, and there really isn't much better than Bourbon Street on a Saturday Night.

Quick update - I spoke to my buddy who works for the Saints. The game is obviously sold out, and getting 20 tickets at this time anywhere but a third party is going to be tough. But, he is speaking with his other departments (corporate sales, sponsorships, etc) to see if he can get some released that way. If not, there will be tickets released a few weeks before the season - once those come back, he will call me and hopefully he'll have enough for the group.

Stay tuned.

C'mon...we're all going to be in New Orleans at the same time, rare occasion...I think we should make a little effort to try to get tickets in the same section at least. At least once DH finds out if he can get the hook up, at least we should see who's looking where.

Title: Re: New Orleans 2012

yeah, there's always that possibility.

Remember, I bought Minnesota Vikings tickets for $55 bucks I think...they were giving them away at the entrance for $10 or less. If Brees signs, I doubt they tank and aren't one of the top teams in the league.

I guess we'll see what DH's friend can do...and we'll go from there.

Southwest is having a 50% off deal today only...only for a few select dates but one happens to be Nov. 6, the day after the game.

QuoteDiscount is valid only on new reservations and purchase must be made on August 3, 2012 for travel on 9/5, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/31, or 11/6/12.

Might want to look into it...I haven't really checked out prices yet.

I booked mine early for fear of prices going up and not knowing that, I think like Matty said, that prices would be cheaper after summer. My luck, they would have doubled if I didn't book.

I paid $454, non-stop, round trip for mine. My ass was just a little sore.

Just to prepare...so what is the night scene like...I'm used to west coast time: "Bars close at 2am but last call is anywhere from 1am-1:30am".

Also, someone told me about a drink called a 'Hand Granade'...I think that's what it is called. Anyone had one?

N'Awlins Hand Grenade

1 1/2 oz gin
1 1/2 oz grain alcohol
1 1/2 oz melon liqueur
1 1/2 oz rum
1 1/2 oz vodka

Stir ingredients in a collins glass with ice. Add water and sugar (to taste) and serve.

IGY, $600? I thought they were in the $300 range....was giving serious consideration in taking a drive up there....Figure...we should be back in Bourbon street by 11pm-12pm...just about the time where things are kicking off anyway...right?

Title: Re: New Orleans 2012
Post by: hbionic on August 26, 2012, 10:20:13 PM
The problem is that we would be giving up prime 'party' time in New Orleans on a Saturday night. It's like the main day to 'party' is Saturday night (although I'm sure every night is just as good, it's New Orleans afterall, right?) but New Orleans isn't an every day thing...and frankly, I wouldn't be upset at all if I missed the LSU vs. Bama game.

I might pass if the case is that the game time is so late and then pairing that up with a drive back.

So I talked to my LSU guy today and he said that online for a nosebleed we can expect to pay $275-$350. Scalping outside will be around $200 for uppers. He said that we'd need to leave NO around 9am to get up there and even if we didn't find any seats there are a lot of bars where we could watch. The drive between BR and NO is only 90 mins so if we drove up and struck out then we just go back to NO and get zesty and shoot craps.

That's a tough choice...giving up a Saturday in New Orleans...I may just pass. I don't think I'll be going anywhere that early...specially not to sit in traffic. So I'm at work and I'm chatting with one of my bosses and I tell him how I'm going down to NOLA for the Eagles/Saints. He starts telling me how there'd be so much for me to learn by going inside the MNF truck and sitting in with the Director (who happens to be my best friend up here) and seeing how things are done there... which is absolutely true. It would look good on me and all that. I tell him that while that'd be great... I'm the LAST person they'll want to see up in that truck with the condition I'm going to be in by the time Monday night rolls around, that I'll be shteinfaced enough to get HIM fired along with me for even suggesting I go in there.

That being said, if at some point on that Monday, my drunk ass starts talking about getting myself or any of you bastiches anywhere NEAR anything MNF or ESPN... tell me to shut the farg up and get the next round.

shapiro went to work for lil danny's water world or whatever theme park he owns but hes more or less the reason why espn went from cool sports network to douche central (discounting feva and some other solid people, of course)

rothman is a pos who "banned" jimmy kimmel after he came on and godforbid got a laugh.

both of them and danny are NOT welcome at my yom kippur party

the good thing is if you do the math the shores are gonna die soon and the hawks arent being produced at a brisk pace. i know they are out there and will also be but in a few decades there shouldnt be enough hawks left on this earth for that side to win any kind of significant office.

I'm in for any group seating under $100. Or over $100. Really, I'm Havas rich so whatever, but the point of this post is:
1. If anyone is going to buy a group of tickets count me in for one and I'll get you a check immediately.
2. I don't want to sit by myself because then I won't be able to high five Matt or rub Hector's beard/belly.

Matt and I are cohabitating at the Pelham that weekend (Sat-Mon). The Do Not Disturb sign will be used liberally.

Also, planning to buy a small set of tickets (4ish, but no more than 5) this weekend unless someone else gets crazy and buys a big block. One for me and one for Matt are already spoken for. I'm tempted to offer one to HB for fear that he'll burst a vein if I don't, but we'll see. First two iceholes to PM me can get in on the magic of sitting with us during an away game. Yay.

For those of you who don't venture into the igy/phreak thread...

QuoteI am likely out man....I mentioned it to bionic and rjs but haven't put it on the board yet because there is still a small chance I can make it but each day gets slimmer and slimmer. I am pretty fargin' bummed out about it too. The thought of a marathon saturday ncaa party with insane amounts of alcohol make me even more bummed.

My mother has to have a major surgery on Nov 7th. She was sick last year with colon cancer and had a few other issues pop up over the year. She is now cancer free but the other issues have required them to schedule a hysterectomy. Unfortunately they cannot do the laproscopic version and have to make the larger incision.

Its great news in the sense that her prognosis is good and all issues will likely be cleared up once this is done but it sucks because I will likely miss out on the NOLA trip we have been planning since April and my Christmas trip to Europe.

So I will probably have to leave Houston that weekend and will be back home for 2+ weeks.

However this means that I will be able to hit some home games...

I'm so far from apathetic that it's sickening. I wish I didn't care. At this point, I'm as angry as I've ever been regarding professional sports. Angry at the coaches, players, management, support staff, gate attendents, drivers, ushers and everyone else. I dont remember booing as loud as I did yesterday in a long ass time and will continue to do so until shtein is changed. I'm thinking of making some kind of a sign to bring into the dome...I need ideas - I was thinking something along the lines of "We flew from all the way from Philly to say FIRE Andy, Times Yours". Short, simple and hopefully will get noticed.

I got robbed by a hot hooker Saturday night yet stayed wasted for three more days, including today. Coincidentally, I learned today my house was broken into while I was away. I'd like to say I appreciate the cop leaving me a voicemail, but I'm pretty sure the police have no business having my phone number which means the FBI must be somehow involved.

Any way you look at it, this was probably the best weekend I've had in the past week or maybe even two. Russia, icehole, and Nana are truly good people, love Scott

Matt and I arrived on the same flight and were scheduled to return on the same flight. I've been home for a day and a half.

I was also woken up at 2:15 this morning to the worst emergency poopsprint of my adult life. I had to run back three more times over the next hour and a half. At some point I realized that if I had still been in NOLA I would have been in the middle of bourbon street when the waterbomb launched from my ass. I was happy to be home.

I'm pretty sure the reason for the water bomb is the lack of alcohol in your system.

I just took my first post New Orleans shtein. It came almost 72 hours after my last one there. I was scared I was so food deprived...but at the same time...it wasn't anything to write home about...only  :CF...which is home to many of us I guess.

Was there a stage and the bartender a hot southern belle with a southern accent by any chance? That bar was dark and she too was talking mess.
