alot of those picks you see drafted high are for keeper leagues.

Those 500+ drafts are a mesh of different scoring system leagues and types of leagues as well, so dont get too caught up

this is a pretty nerdy question but most of you seem to keep it real

in a ten team league my first three picks are

2. (99% sure im taking stephen jackson)
19.
22.

gimme your opinion on what three or four players will be there for my 2nd and 3rd picks...both with who i should like to be there in an ideal (but still realistic) situation and in an overall general realistic sense who will be there

I would be thinking about these five dudes, at least two of which should still be there at 19 & 22...

Willis McGahee, Edgerrin James, Carson Palmer, Thomas Jones, Chad Johnson. Jones is hurt so he may actually last longer than that, but working in NYJ he should have a nice year.

because you have the 2nd pick, it guarentees you a nice  RB2 and a quality WR1. Id go WR first to ensure yourself a stud like a Chad Johnson (but he may be gone) or any Tier 1 WR's, then grab a Maurice Jones Drew, Cedric Benson or any of the guys RJS mentioned.

you also might want to look at strength of schedule (more so weeks 10-15) for the RB2 pick. It will make or break you down the stretch

theres not a chance in hell im taking a wr with the number 2 pick...way to try to sabotage my whole year

I thought he meant, use 19 for a WR...but now that I've re-read it, I don't know...who in farg would use pick number 2 on a WR ?
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: ice grillin you on August 16, 2007, 07:48:52 AM
not me

and i hope rjs is right and mcgahee is there at 19...i think hes gonna have a big year and id love to have a jackson mcgahee combo...usually in this league tho the first 12 picks are rb's and peyton manning...i dont think willis will be there
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: rjs246 on August 16, 2007, 08:31:23 AM
You might get lucky. McGahee had a really bad (fantasy) season last year and a new team may or may not convince people that he's worth a top-15 pick. Anyway, he probably won't be there, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: ice grillin you on August 16, 2007, 08:39:59 AM
yeah he falls under the best case scenario pick...problem is living where i do mcgahee is gonna go earlier than he normally would because of all the talk about him...or at the very least hes not gonna drop

the hardest part about those second and third picks when they are so close together as mine is what if there really isnt a rb worth taking then...and where do you draw the line on your rb rankings to say after this guy im not taking a back at 19 or 22...but if you you come to that conclusion youre farged because the next time i pick the rb's left are gonna be garbage

so do i reach at 19 or 22 and take the best back on the board regardless or do you take the best player on the board and have a really weak #2 back
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: rjs246 on August 16, 2007, 08:44:09 AM
I think Thomas Jones fits perfectly into the 19-22 range. You could certainly get a Benson or a Cadillac there and they are guaranteed to get lots of carries this year. They aren't superstars, but they're decent second options.
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: ice grillin you on August 16, 2007, 08:46:19 AM
so basically if youre in that seat youre 100% taking a rb at 19 or 22
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: rjs246 on August 16, 2007, 08:48:51 AM
I'm taking a RB at one of them and either Palmer, a superstar WR, or another RB who has slipped at the other... but yeah, RB is basically the top priority for me. You can cobble together QBs and even WRs, but its a lot harder with RBs and with so many running back by committee teams this year it gets even harder.
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: ice grillin you on August 16, 2007, 08:51:48 AM
right everyone puts a top priority on rb's

my thing is what if palmer chad johnson and thomas jones are all there and i already have stephen jackson...do you still take jones or whatever second tier rb may be there vs a first tier qb and wr
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: rjs246 on August 16, 2007, 09:01:50 AM
Yes. I take a RB there. It's just as likely that Jon Kitna will have 4000/25 this year and you can get him 3 rounds later. I would probably go for Chad Johnson or another stud WR with 22 but yeah I get my RBs straightened out first.
Title: Re: Average Top 10 Fantasy Football Daft Picks
Post by: ice grillin you on August 16, 2007, 09:04:05 AM
yeah i totally agree on a guy like kitna...my normal philosphy is to not take a qb until like the 6th or 7th round...but last year i ended up with eli and it killed me so im thinking of flipping the script this year

I can't decide which Eagle to take in the first round.  Probably Akers.

yes.  then you go WR.  leave QB for no earlier than round five.

IGY,

rather than you saying that Im trying to sabotage your draft, take another look at what I said about your picks. Im an advocate of the two RB's first law, but your draft position sometimes determines that law

You have the 19th and 22nd with Jackson already in tack. Your next draft decision will be based on the previous guys ahead of you. If one or two of the guys with the 15th-18th picks start taking the stud receivers, you might want to jump on one yourself with the 19th, then scoop up a 2nd RB with the 22nd. There is not that much of difference with the 2RB's in that draft position (2 picks from your 19th). There is though a big jump with the WR's from Tier 1 to Tier 2 in that position. At least you guarentee yourself a stud receiver because you can bet they wont be there in your 4th rd.

Its up to you and again its all predicated on the previous draftees, but thats my move. GL

If there are two running backs you really like at 19, definitely take a wide receiver. The guy who picks at 20 and 21 will already have Tomlinson so it is not likely he takes two running backs.

as someone mentioned before i think i misread what you were saying...you were referring to the 19 and 22 johnsons and not the #2 pick which is what i thought you were saying regarding chad johnson

i think we we are all on the same plane here

i apologize
