Title: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: Zanshin on July 06, 2006, 08:46:09 AM
Okay, looks like there's enough interest from the ancient ones to keep the Keeper League alive.

MURP decided to go and get a life, so he asked me to babysit the league this year.  Dio will be taking over MURP's team this season.

Based on the final standings last year, here is the draft order for this year;

1.  STACKTOWN STALWARTS-- Troy
2.  MIGHTY MIDGETS- Mikey
3.  C_BUSBUSTER BEATERS-- Chuck
4.  TIGHT BALLS- Zanshin
5.  Dio's Ragged Company-- Dio
6.  T-HAWK'S REVENGE-- Tomahawk
7-  ASTROGLIDE-- RJS
8.  SWEET SASSY MO-LASSY-- Sarge

And confirmed in this year, we have:

Zanshin
Sarge
Dio
Mikey
Chuck
RJS
Tomahawk

I'll reach out to the other guys to see if they're in.  If I don't hear from them in the next week or so, I'll start doling out their spots.  FF gets first crack at an orphaned team.

How many are we keeping?
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: Zanshin on July 06, 2006, 09:37:05 AM
As usual, we'll be keeping:

1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 TE/DEF/K
1 Rookie (from last year)

Please start to post your keepers.  You can adjust this, as needed, until a week prior to the draft (TBD).

Okay, as for the draft....  How do you guys want to draft this year?  On the board, as usual?  Live draft?  I'm open to suggestions.
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: Diomedes on July 06, 2006, 09:40:13 AM
Live draft is best.

Who shall I cut??  Hmmm...
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on July 06, 2006, 09:41:05 AM
So, I'll take Troy's team if it's available.

Also, I can host an actual live draft on my ready-conference call-in number.
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: rjs246 on July 06, 2006, 09:43:18 AM
I'd rather do it on the board but I don't really care. Also, I don't have any rookies on my roster. How about if I just get to take Tomlinson from Chuck instead. It's only fair.
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: Diomedes on July 06, 2006, 09:46:41 AM
Name change to: Dio's Ragged Company

I'll keep:
1 QB- Peyton Manning
2 RB- Edgerrin James, Larry Johnson
2 WR- Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald,
1 TE/DEF/K- Alge Crumpler
1 Rookie - Reggie Brown

Oh right, my ridiculous GM'ing skills.

farg no you can't take a rookie that isn't on anybody elses roster. You should have thought about that toward the end of the season.
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: rjs246 on July 06, 2006, 10:24:32 AM
So I go into the draft with one less player on my roster? That doesn't make a bit of sense.
Title: Re: Keeper League: 2006-7
Post by: Tomahawk on July 06, 2006, 10:32:18 AM
I don't know what to tell you other than you should have picked up a rookie you like(d) at the end of last season, assuming you realized this is a Keeper League.

Your final roster, after the draft and subsequent waiver period, will have the same number of players as everybody else's (unless you're an idiot).

I had Braylon Edwards on my team for most of the season. But due to his injuries and the general suckitude of my (inherited) squad he got dropped.

Whatever, I'm offering up my 4th round pick for a 5th and 7th. Who wants some?!

Set up the league on Yahoo.

Those of you confirmed in for the year, please register your team ASAP so I don't have to kick out people who don't belong there ;).  I don't feel like collecting e-mail addresses, so I'll just post the sign-in information here:

Click on the link below, then enter the League ID and the Password:

If I take over for Troy, I'll keep the following players:

QB - Eli Manning

RB - Brian Westbrook
     Stephen Jackson

WR - Steve Smith
     Anquan Boldin

TE - Tony Gonzales

rookie - Cedric Benson

Week 9 is a guaranteed loss due to byes, I guess (this is a H2H league, right?).

I'll choose an apropos team name once I'm certain I get the team.

I have a current offer to rjs to trade my 6th and 7th round picks or my 5th and 8th round picks for his 4th rounder.  It's my counter-offer from his previous offer of his 4th for my 5th and 7th.

We didn't really talk about pre-draft trades.  To nip any problems in the bud, pre-draft trades involving players are prohibited.  Any trades involving draft picks have to be voted on by the league.

He was saying individual trades have to be voted on by the league.  Derrrrrrrrrrr

BTW, you should take rjs' offer - since his 4th is near the beginning of the round and your 5th and 7th are near the end of the respective rounds.

As for the draft........a live draft is going to work best for me (nights or weekends) because I can no longer access the board from work.  Stupid guvment censorship.   >:(

When are we drafting?

Also, I am considering FF's counter-offer to my initial trade offer. He had offered me a 5th and an 8th for my 4th rounder.

If anyone is interested in giving me a 5th and a 7th I'll take it. Assuming FF doesn't take his offer off the table I'll be willing to listen to trade offers right up until my pick in the 4th round.

The danger with waiting until your pick is that if there's no one on the board at that time I rate much highly than anyone else, I won't take it.  The deal is on the table until before the draft starts.  After that, I'm not promising anything.

Okay.  I know that some vacation schedules could get in the way the further we get into August.  So, how about we get this thing out of the way with a live draft next week, using either FF's conference bridge or a real-time draft thread on the board.

How many people could make next Wednesday at 8pm EST?   One week from today.

FF brings up a good point. I'm accepting the trade pending FF's final approval.

Approved.  I am trading my 5th and 8th round picks for your 4th rounder, pending league approval.

Okay.  I know that some vacation schedules could get in the way the further we get into August.  So, how about we get this thing out of the way with a live draft next week, using either FF's conference bridge or a real-time draft thread on the board.

How many people could make next Wednesday at 8pm EST?   One week from today.

I could do that.

Yeah, but it's a keeper league...so, chances are you're pre-screwed.  The best players are already on the rosters...theoretically.

There's nothing "above" thanks to the new 5-post-a-page formatting here on :CF.

I assume you're talking about both approving the draft time (August 2 at 8pm ET) and my trade with rjs.  You might want to send a PM to the 5 guys who haven't responded yet, because it can be tough to catch up on threads with all the pages.

Then again, I might not want to do that...and just sort of hope they're paying some semblance of attention.

Actually, screw it.  The Keeper League draft is next Wednesday at 8pm.  I'll post additional details as they become available.  Try your best to be there, or send me an easy to follow list.

There that should help.  No reason this needs to be democratic.

I ran the CFFFL draft on the board with MURP last year and it went smooth as a baby's ass. And we've only got 8 people in this league AND we already have half of our teams (via keepers). We should be able to plow through this puppy.

I was thinking that doing the live draft on the board might be easiest, or a combo with the board and the call.  I like the board idea because there's a written record of the proceedings.  But it would still be a live draft.  Say 1:30 or so per pick.  Miss that and the pick gets bumped to the end of the draft and we move to next in line.

All the players except the ones on my team ARE broken down by position and alphabetically.  You can go ahead and merge my players into the list if you really want it that bad.

P.S.  The more I think about doing a live draft on this board, with 5 posts per page, the more my eyes bleed.  Doesn't everybody have AIM and we can just do a "chat room" there?

P.P.S.  I totally think rjs is totally going to accept my trade offer.

Here's the deal, and it's final.  We're doing the draft on the board.  We'll have two threads, one for offical business and the other for bullshtein.

Also, FF will send each member of the league the conference number and password.  Anyone who want's to join the call is welcome to....just for shteins and giggles.  HOWEVER, if, for any reason, the CF site craps out...you're obligated to join the call to finish the draft, or we just move on with the people on the call.

2) its obvious that you maticulously typed that, and probrably even deleted and edited it. judging by how far apart the keys are on the keyboard.

We should just do a live draft through yahoo. We could pick the players we designated as keepers with our first few picks.

Okay, a couple of things.  I'm sure you've seen the official draft thread.  If not, please go take a quick look.  I know there were a couple of pre-draft trades-- please let me know where that affects the draft order so I can adjust it appropriately.

Also, I need a volunteer to keep up with the "Players Taken" list during the course of the draft.  I'm going to be updating the Draft Results.  If you can maintain the list, please cut-and-paste the "Players Taken" section of the thread and post it under your name so you can edit it.  I'll then delete my original entry.

Thanks!

Yes, but you did edit that recently.

I made up my list on Thursday of unavailable players, and Deuce was still your choice at that time.

Also, there should be 8 rounds in the draft, not 7.

I went with two RBs in our keeper draft:  Joseph Addai and Frank Gore.  Y'all laughed then, and you may laugh last, but for the time being, I'm smiling.

I liked Addai as a rookie pick in a keeper who might get some hefty playing time.  Since then, Mungro has blown out his knee, so Addai will see more touches even if he doesn't win the starting role from Rhodes, which he might yet do...

I took Gore because he looked good at times last year, he's young, and Barlow hardly had a lock on the starting role at draft time.  Now that Barlow was dumped to the Jets, Gore will be the season long starter, barring injury.

LJ
Edge
Gore
Addai

Not a bad group at RB in a keeper league.

For the second week in a row, I've won both of my H2H leauges.  In my money league and in the keeper.  4-0 ain't bad.  Also, I'm doing nicely in my points league, and I even managed 13 correct picks this week in the pick 'em, so I'm now showing a respectable score there...

I know.  I also have Taylor on the bench in another league.  Fate sealed.

Basically, worst-case scenario for me with my two H2H leagues that aren't already a lost cause is that JAX is able to run all over Pittsburgh, and they are forced to go pass-wacky to try to come back... so Roethlisberger gets a ton of yards but maybe only one TD.  In my money league, I have a nice lead, but he has Big Ben and the Jax D.

This kind of thing is exactly why it's important to have the backup.  It's nice for when you know well beforehand that a guy is gonna be out, but you have other options (trade, waiver wire) when you have notice.  When the prior notice is measured in minutes rather than days, waivers and trades are already on hold for the week, so you need to have a body to throw into the lineup.

In my money league, I've got Tiki and Buck.  Another dude has Westbrook and Jacobs.  I just got him on the phone, broke the news, and seeded ground for a Jacobs/Westbrook trade.  He'll bite, I'll have gained the better back, but we'll both be in better positions than we are now.

Yeah, if this were a money league, I would have been a little more careful.  I'd still lose, though.

Well, this team was the bottom-feeder of the league last year, so I've done OK.  But yeah.

My team's gone to complete shyte this year.  I inherited it like 3 years ago I think and improved it each year, culminating with my domination of rjs in the championship game last year.  This year I have yet to win a game.  I think it's a curse.  A curse that curses greatness.

Sassy, are you really going into this week without a QB?  For farg sake man...

In the Astroglide v. Killer Krauts mactchup, I'm intrigued by each team's selection of a swing player.  Both went with WRs who should be good, but have sucked donkey balls so far this year: Randy Moss for rjs and Hines Ward for 61.  Neither team had a better option due to byes, unless you count Marion Barber III as a better option than Ward.  I'm interested to see if either player makes a contribution.  If I had to choose which one, I'd bet that Ward has the better chance of helping the cause.

Starting Ward was a stroke of genius on my part as he scored .20 more than Barber and almost -2 times as many points Astroglide's starting QB.

My team put together a nice couple of wins against two of the best teams in the league the last couple of weeks.

Looks like I may eek out my first win of the season.  I'm actually a little pissed.  I was looking forward to setting a :CF record for futility.  Oh well, I should still get the first pick in the draft next year anyways.  So I got that going for me.  Except for the fact that all the good players are already taken.

I doubt you can make a worse first overall pick than I did this year.

Well, to be honest-- we didn't post our rosters at the end of the year and I can no longer access it.  So we might all be in screwedsville.

Hahaha.  Oops.

I say we start a new keeper league.  I had relinquished my team back to troy, but I'll take Homohawk's spot.

So, we have 8:
Dio
Zanshin
rjs
mikey
Sarge
troy
me
chuck, or MURP?  I forget.

Let's go to 10 or 12 teams for the new keeper league.  The 8 team league's a crapshoot anyway.  Plus, it'll be fun to re-draft and start fresh.

Murp was the commish; for personal reasons he asked me to do it last year.  He's welcome to having it back, if he's up to it.  If not, I'll do it again.

My vote would be to expand it to 10 teams.  I like 12-team leagues, but that gets tougher to maintain consistently from year-to-year here.

Ha!  I took the last place team and made it to the championship game.  Since I'm a true Eagles fan, I obviously have no idea what it takes to WIN the championship, but I got in there and competed.

I can't wait to draft Kevin Curtis in the first round.

That's an easy fix dook.  Check and see if your neighbor has a wireless router and then run your wireless card (if you have one.  if not, get one) off of their router.

My sister lives in this quaint little apt complex in Frederick, MD and she hasn't paid for teh internets since she got there (almost 2 years) because her neighor has a wireless network set up so my sister just taps into that with her card.  And when I went up there over x-mas, I ran my laptop off of it too.

Free intrawebs rule.

Oh, and I'm also not opposed to starting a new league so long as I am able to keep the draft position that I worked so hard to get.  Keeper League champ one year, worst record in the league the following.

That only works if the neighbor is operating an unsecured wireless network within range.

Troy and Chuck have also been more or less MIA. If I don't hear from these clowns we could have spots open. Or we could just scrap the league. Or I could run a two-man league against Tomahawk and we could send each other secret messages and play hide the potato. Either way I'm good.
